The Institute of Immunology at the University of Münster (Münster, Germany) provides a great collaborative platform in which a close cooperation with clinical departments enhances our strong translational research aspects in fields of e. g. internal medicine, paediatrics, intensive care, dermatology and molecular imaging. The scientific interests of the institute are the molecular and biochemical connections between acute and chronic inflammation, with a particular focus on the immunomodulatory functions of myeloid cells, specially monocytes / macrophages and neutrophils. The successful candidates will join the Institute for Immunology to work in several projects focusing on infectious and sterile inflammation. Main topic of these studies in the projects are pro- and anti-inflammatory responses triggered by phagocytes during acute and chronic inflammation. Furthermore, we aim to unravel novel mechanisms that contribute to the resolution of inflammation triggered by immunomodulatory aspects of monocytes and macrophages, such as immune tolerization, innate immune training, cell phagocytosis and cell migration. We apply immunological, genetic and biochemical techniques, genome editing of myeloid precursor cells, and advanced imaging techniques to visualize disease activities and monocyte functions in vivo. Projects are linked to interdisciplinary research networks and associated structured graduate programmes. Candidates with a strong interest in immunology translational biomedical research are encouraged to apply. Hands-on lab experience in cell culture, molecular biology, in vivo imaging techniques, mouse handling, flow cytometry and basic experiences in biostatistics will be desirable but are not necessary. Candidates should be open for interdisciplinary cooperation in a strong scientific environment.
