Job description

Our client is looking for a SCRUM Master for an initial 12 month contract, located in Westhill, Aberdeenshire.

ROLE

The Digital & Data team is at the forefront of transformation for the company, implementing changes to ensure that we remain competitive in the ever-changing landscape of the energy industry.

  • The Digital & Data team aims to deliver fundamental improvements in our performance.
  • The Digital & Data team is dynamic and responsive. As such the Scrum Master must be comfortable working in an uncertain environment and happy to work with all Digital & Data squads in a state of change with reprioritisation and rescheduling as required to deliver.
  • There is a need to deliver modern tools within a budget and with limited internal resources. The tools and techniques are complex and new to the Upstream industry therefore there is a need to educate others and demonstrate the value and applications of Digital & Data step-by-step.
  • Company's business environment is challenging due to low commodity prices, high costs, declining production and the emerging transition of the energy industry. To ensure the company's future in both the short and long-term, Digital & Data strongly contributes to the company strategy.
  • The Scrum Master will be required to work across 2 - 3 squads and will collaborate with squad support. The Scrum Master will be required to adapt, coach and support as required

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Guides and coaches the squad and wider organisation (when applicable) on how to apply Scrum theory, practices, rules, and values.
  • Supports the Product Owner to ensure that all items in the backlog are transparent and understood.
  • Removes impediments and coaches the squad on how to address impediments themselves
  • Fosters close cooperation across all squad members, encourages an atmosphere of mentoring and coaching within the squad.
  • Facilitates communication and collaboration inside and outside the squad.
  • Shields the squad from external interferences and ensures the team is fully functional and productive.
  • Fosters self-organisation and growth within the squad
  • Builds a trusted and safe environment where problems can be raised freely.
  • Fosters and maintains excellent working relationships with external stakeholders.
  • Has the ability to align external stakeholders with team cadence and ways of working.
  • Resolves tough conflicts and brings the squad together in hard times
  • Acts as a coach and mentor who the squad can rely on
  • Ensures Squad Support is aware of all squad activities and consulted when assistance is required.
  • Guides and facilitates creation and monitoring of squad objectives and key results and other key metrics
  • Promotes a positive and goal orientated mindset within the squad

REQUIREMENTS

  • Have significant experience as a Scrum Master with experience of serving multiple squads. Track record of facilitating Scrums and coaching people on the methodology and behaviours required for success.
  • Have a deep understanding of agile processes & ceremonies, principles & values, why & how they should be applied
  • Have experience in working with agile tools and techniques (backlog, burndown charts, velocity etc.) to demonstrate progress
  • Be assertive, with the confidence to be voice of authority - not afraid to pursue best for the team
  • Bring a high-energy and passionate outlook to the job and can influence those around her/him
  • Be able to quickly build a sense of trust and rapport that creates a comfortable & effective workplace
  • Have strong communication skills with ability to manage complex messages and teach new concepts
  • Be able to resolve conflicts within the team before they become an issue, strong mediator
  • Be an efficient & confident communicator with great inter-personal skills who inspires the team and engages senior management
  • Be an active coach and mentor whose goal is to grow and maximize the team's potential.
  • Promote innovative thinking and self-improvement within the team
  • Be confident and skilled at navigating the team through road-blocks
  • Be adaptable to a changing environment
