Our client is looking for a Quality Engineer (Nuclear) for a permanent / contract position, located in Nigg

ROLE

The role of Quality Engineer is to ensure the effective performance of the Quality Assurance and the Control activities required to demonstrate compliance with project design intent through the specifications and standards and overall product and related conformance to the client requirements.

The Quality Engineer reports through Project Quality Manager on all matters relating to Quality, however functionally the QA Engineer may communicate directly with the Senior Project Manager / Project Manager / Project Engineer on project specific quality issues and advise on the provision of project Quality Assurance services. The Quality Engineer plays a key role in promoting nuclear safety awareness and developing a Right First-Time fit for purpose culture throughout the project. QA Engineers shall also support the overall delivery of project objectives.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • The Quality Engineer must have significant experience of interpreting client specification and quality requirements and authoring project quality procedures and detailed manufacturing documentation for pre manufacture client approval. It is preferable that this experience is gained in a fabrication environment in the nuclear industry or in other high integrity industries such as pharmaceutical/chemical/aviation. Further experience is required as being the focal point and managing sub-contractor documentation production, providing detailed guidance & review of sub-contractor documentation (including Quality Plans, ITP's, Quality and Manufacturing Procedures) for client approval.
  • Self-motivated individual who can create effective relationships with all relevant stakeholders and colleagues and ultimately drive the processes to conclusion.
  • The QA Engineer is responsible for ensuring that the company and the Client's quality requirements are clearly understood, communicated and achieved by the project team.
  • Ensuring that the appropriate levels of quality are met, and that products and services are produced and delivered in compliance with customers design and expectations.
  • To support in the management of the projects supply chain, qualification and the monitoring of overall supply chain performance.
  • Ensuring that the requirements of all quality procedures are met as well as the requirements of ITP's (Inspection and Test Plans) where appropriate.
  • Ensuring that effective quality control checks highlighted in the relevant working inspection and test plans are performed by the QC Inspectors / Supervisors throughout all manufacturing process activities and that traceability records are maintained in accordance with project requirements.
  • The Quality Engineer shall ensure the timely collation of the LTQR (Life-Time Quality Record) dossiers in real time concurrent with production and service delivery.
  • Establishing a good external working relationship with the client and can be responsible for liaison with the Client and any third parties on all matters relating to Quality Assurance and Control.
  • Subject to holding current Lead Auditor qualification the QA Engineer shall, as required, perform/co-ordinate regular audits/inspections on all project activity both at GEG sites and across the full depth and breadth of the project supply chain. The Quality Engineer shall be responsible for the timely reporting of audit findings and close out of any NCR's. Internal and external audits to support project program. 1Ensure that lessons learned (Learning From Experience) are captured and guidance notes produced and distributed across the project and wider Client / GEG network. Lessons Learned will address both positive and negative learnings.
  • Support and champion the development and maintenance of a Right First-Time approach to project execution and promote an authentic nuclear safety culture across the project including throughout the GEG project supply chain.
  • Any other duty which, from time to time, may reasonably be required to meet the needs of company and is within the remit of this post.
  • Ensure work productivity is carried out in a safe and cost-conscious manner.
  • Adopt and encourage right first-time, fit for purpose practices and promote nuclear safety culture in all aspects of the project.
  • Support quality training, project management inductions.
  • Be proficient in the use of Microsoft office - Adobe, Word, Excel, Microsoft Teams

REQUIREMENTS

Mandatory

  • Substantial previous experience in a quality assurance role within the fabrication and engineering, Nuclear industry.
  • The Quality Engineer must have significant experience of interpreting client specification and quality requirements and authoring project quality procedures and detailed manufacturing documentation for pre manufacture client approval. It is preferable that this experience is gained in a fabrication environment in the nuclear industry or in other high integrity industries such as pharmaceutical/chemical/aviation. Further experience is required as being the focal point and managing sub-contractor documentation production, providing detailed guidance & review of sub-contractor documentation (including Quality Plans, ITP's, Quality and Manufacturing Procedures) for client approval.

Preferred

  • Nuclear sector or other high integrity industry experience including manufacture using nuclear Quality Grades and compilation of LTQR dossiers.
  • Have an Engineering background and attained an ONC / HNC equivalent
  • Current Lead Auditor qualification to provide SQEP validation for execution of internal / external audits.
