Job description

Our client is accepting applications for the position of Senior Drilling Engineer, located in our Aberdeen Office. The Senior Drilling Engineer will have responsibilities (to varying degrees) in all aspects of Well Integrity, Well Construction, Well Intervention, Well Decommissioning & Well Abandonment for MODU based projects. Duties will cover design, execution and close out of all aspects of the drilling, completions, subsea and well testing scopes for standalone MODU projects, within the Wells Department.
Responsibilities
• Be an active and significant contributor in the design, planning and execution of client well operations safely, efficiently and cost effectively in accordance with Client policies & procedures as well as industry best practices.
• Analyse offset data, generate and evaluate design options, assess risks, prepare detailed design and programme documents, prepare MOC's and dispensations to policy, prepare Examination and Notification/Consent applications, prepare time and cost estimates, procure services, equipment and materials and co-ordinate suppliers and service providers to meet the objectives for drilling, completing, working over or decommissioning the well(s).
• Furnish the rig team with technical, planning and operational support by co-ordinating the onshore internal and external team members to plan contingencies, resolve problems and execute rig operations safely, efficiently and cost effectively.
• Support the Well Integrity team on engineering reviews of well integrity issues of operating, suspended and long term shut in wells.
• Liaise & report with Regulatory and other external agencies, as required.
• Participate/contribute to changes and improvements to the Well Management System.
• Participate in weekend duty and emergency response rotas.
• Support and assist the graduate engineering scheme and intern scheme.
• Ensure the client standards for HES are rigorously applied to the well delivery and execution process and suggest improvements to the system.
• Participate in the safety and environmental programmes and encourage other team members to do the same.
• Assist and deputise for the Superintendent.

Qualifications
• Industry recognised academic qualification (degree or equivalent) or comparable experience preferably gained with an Operator and/or Well Management Company in the UKCS, working at Senior Drilling Engineer level. Engineering degree preferred.
• Valid UKCS certification, including IWCF L4.
• Recent UKCS semi-submersible drilling experience.
• Expert Landmark software package user; demonstrating recent experience with Compass, WellPlan, StressCheck and WellCat (preferably).
• Extensive operational experience of managing well challenges, particularly with respect to hole cleaning, unstable shales and/or well bore stability issues, tight windows in shale drilling and management of OBM properties to manage same.
• Capability in planning and executing well campaigns within a short planning cycle.
• Competency with P&A and/or subsea well slot recovery operations.
• Experience with the UK regulatory and permitting requirements, including preparation of OSDR Well Notifications and writing of well programmes in compliance with corporate policies, standards, procedures and guidelines.
• Demonstrable experience of successful performance initiatives and sustainable knowledge/lessons transfer.
• Coaching and supervising teams of Engineers, both experienced and inexperienced &/or Graduate Engineers.
• Contract management, contractor performance management, contract tendering experience and attendance at quarterly service company contract performance review meetings where required.
• Operational decision-making experience e.g. out of hours duty and/or Superintendent experience preferred.
• Experience with running smart completions.
• Ability to work with internal subsurface department to determine suitability of proposed well objectives from a risk-based perspective.
• Prepares AFEs for projects. Ensures project expenditures are effectively monitored, managed and controlled.
• HPHT experience preferable but not essential.
