Job description

Our client is looking for a Lead Mechanical Engineer for an initial 5 month contract position, located in Westhill, Aberdeenshire.

ROLE

The lead mechanical engineer is responsible and accountable for specification and technical assurance of delivery and installation of all Piping, Valves and Vessel aspects of the GMRU package and associated site modification.

The GMRU Package includes the following:

  • Design, supply, fabrication, and installation Gas Mercury Removal Unit (vessel), including piping and valves
  • GMRU inlet gas heater system
  • Condensate Mercury Removal Unit absorbent bed changeout
  • Re-routing of LLP compressor outlet to LP compressor system
  • Effluent Water treatment dosing unit

RESPONSIBILITIES

Management

  • Participate in the GMRU Project Weekly Management Meetings both internally and externally with EPCC contractor.
  • Preparation of mechanical specifications and datasheets and scopes of work as needed for the GMRU project.
  • Project representative for all mechanical matters through project sanction gates and project reviews.
  • Answering technical queries from EPCC contractor.
  • Technical assurance by review, comment, and approval of all EPCC contractor deliverables ensuring alignment with Company General Specifications and Company Rules.
  • Coordinating of multidisciplinary technical assurance provision via external consultant or internal company resources
  • Ensure that everyone working within the GMRU Team (staff and contractors) understand and comply with Company health, safety, and environment policies.
  • Encourage, by example, all team members and EPCC contractor to accept personal responsibility and accountability for actions.
  • Perform duties in accordance with safety requirements and the MAESTRO rules.
  • Ensure safe working practices are carried out within the construction activities, to minimise LTIs, incidents, dangerous occurrences, and other safety items.

Reporting and communication

  • Report to project Lead and inform of any potential risks and issues in a pro-active manner.
  • Build strong relationships with other GMRU project team members, External Consultants, EPCC contractor personnel, WoS Field Operations teams to ensure strong lines of communication are always maintained.
  • Provides assistance as required in the process of communicating with any third parties.
  • Develop effective and constructive relationships with EPCC Contractor representative(s) in a manner that enables a high level of value to be obtained for the company.
  • Positively represent the Company at EPCC Contractor sites, Fabricator, during construction site construction, as and when required.

Project execution

  • Act as Company Representative towards EPCC Contractor (including fabrication).
  • Monitor EPCC Contractor's achievements in accordance with contractual requirements, especially in the area of safety and technical expertise to ensure all Company standards are met.
  • Accept delegation of authority from the GMRU topsides lead for the management of the GMRU contract.
  • Support GMRU Package Lead in challenging and negotiating Change Order Requests from EPCC.
  • Manage the day-to-day activities at the offices of the EPCC Contractor.
  • Responsible for the technical assurance of engineering of all mechanical equipment/facilities included in the GMRU work package.
  • Ensure that all relevant documentation created by the EPCC Contractor or its suppliers is reviewed and commented on by the relevant specialists within the appropriate time frame.
  • Pro-actively manage the contract Scope of Work for GMRU package.
  • Identify and mitigate Project risks associated with the GMRU Package.
  • Provide assistance on engineering/technical aspects for mobilization of mechanical packages and site installation.
  • Assist with the preparation of the pre-commissioning and commissioning/start-up activities for the GMRU package.
  • Prepare/support handover to WoS Field Operations / Commissioning team.
  • Ensure that the GMRU package is carried out in line with current UK regulations.

REQUIREMENTS

Excellent knowledge of the concerned engineering disciplines:

  • Piping
  • Valves
  • Vessels
  • Corrosion/metallurgy
  • Structural
  • Greenfield and Brownfield Engineering and Construction
  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering discipline (chartered engineer or equivalent).
  • Significant project experience (planning, cost control, contracting).
  • Extensive experience overall with successful experience as a package manager.
