Job description
Head of Medical Workforce and Education
The Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust
Agenda for Change - Band 8C
The Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust is the main provider of hospital services for the population of Reading, Newbury, Wokingham and the towns and villages of West Berkshire. We provide excellent healthcare services for over 500,000 people and employ more than 5,500 staff. We are actively involved in research and development which supports our high quality work and benefits both patients and staff. As a result, we are able to offer outstanding career opportunities for doctors, nurses, midwives and other professions.
In addition to this, we are a founder member of the Berkshire West Integrated Care System, and one of NHS England's demonstrator sites for integration between primary, community, mental health and acute healthcare services.
We are now seeking to appoint a Head of Medical Workforce and Education, to lead the team that delivers high levels of strategic input and operational support to the Trust's Medical Workforce (c.700 staff). In order to do this, you will need to develop effective working relationships with key stakeholders both at Trust and system level. In addition to this, you will also operate as a valued senior member of the wider Workforce and OD Team.
We are looking for someone who can lead the Medical Workforce and Education agenda and team in a complex and fast changing environment. Key aspects of the role will include setting strategic direction and developing our medical leadership capability. You will ensure the Trust can recruit and retain medical colleagues, as well as assure cost effective temporary supply. You will support the revalidation and job planning agendas, implement the new junior doctors contract and prepare for the consultant contract, ensuring employee relations processes on an individual and collective basis run smoothly.
As a suitable candidate you will have equivalent experience gained within an organisation of similar scale and complexity. You will have excellent team management skills and be a values based leader. You will be able to demonstrate excellent communication skills, with the ability to lead projects and undertake detailed analysis and report this in an accessible way.
If you are looking for a challenging and rewarding role in an excellent organisation, then we look forward to receiving your application and to meeting with you in due course. For an informal discussion, please contact Joe Joyce of the Finegreen Group at
