Summary
Hourly Rate: £9.25 per hour day rate (rising to £9.75 after probationary period) & £10.25 per hour night rate (rising to £10.75 after successful completion of 6 month probationary period)

Hours of work: 36 hours per week worked in 12 hour shifts
on a flexible, mutually agreed basis which will include night shifts and weekends.

Additional hours may be offered

Variable working pattern Monday - Sunday
The working days will be arranged in advance with mutual consent.
Main purpose of the role:
This is a great opportunity to provide care and support for the employer who is a gentleman requiring a team of personal assistant/carer(s) to support with his complex, clinical, personal care needs and his social interaction. Staff should be able to work within a large team working to a 24-7 rota. The role requires great stamina so the applicants will need to be physical fit, (there is a family dog who will need to be walked and exercised regularly) and have a good sense of humour whilst remaining respectful, patient, friendly, discrete and professional at all times.

Our expectations:

Staff will be required to work flexibly to a pre planned rota, which includes working daytimes, evenings, nights and weekends throughout the year.

- You must be passionate about care and willing to work for him to improve his life and increase his independence.
- You must be willing to support him to look after his pets
- You must be motivated, forward thinking and committed to patient care in providing clinical personal and social support to him
- You must be willing to complete comprehensive training and career development plans.
- Be willing to drive an adapted vehicle if you have a clean driving licence
- You should have experience in a similar role and wish to further develop your existing skills

Main duties:

Personal care tasks:
- Support with dressing
- Support with washing
- Support with transfers from bed to chair and vice versa
- Support with continence
- Oral care
- Administering medication
- Rehabilitation and physiotherapy exercises
- Knowledge of non verbal communication styles
- Maintain good communication skills with the ability to speak and write in English clearly.
- Maintain good contact between the gentleman and his many friends and family and be able to actively listen to support his requests and requirements
- Support him to manage his personal affairs
- Support him to look after his pets including maintenance of dog hygiene

Domestic tasks:
- Support to maintain a safe living environment respecting his choices and rights for him and his pets.
- Keeping the kitchen clean and tidy, preparing food and drinks
- Household cleaning and tidying
- Helping to look after the gentleman's pets and dog, including walking, grooming and exercising the pets
- Laundry - washing, drying and ironing
- Changing bedding for him and his pets
- Manage and take responsibility for the gentleman's belonging whilst in and out of the home, in a safe and secure manner

Social tasks:
- Support to attend appointments and activities outside of the home
- Support to enable trips out including walking and exercising of pets
- Support to establish a good social calendar
- Support to maintain an in house programme of activities on a daily basis maintaining motivation.

Person specification:

Qualifications: Essential - Good general education, being able to read and review care plans regularly, acknowledging and implementing the changes. Be able to keep detailed and accurate records, on Medication, Care and tasks undertaken. Desirable: NVQ Care Certificates, Full clean driving licence, First Aid certificates.
Experience: Essential - Life experience/gained knowledge and learning from voluntary, paid work, travel etc. Desirable - Some previous experience of working as a carer or PA in a large team of carers
Skills: Essential - Good verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills. Desirable - Have a full, clean driving licence and the ability to drive an automatic adapted van.
Specific Conditions:

This position is subject to satisfactory references, a satisfactory DBS and successful completion of a six month probationary period.
