Press Officer opportunity in Peterborough

This is an exciting opportunity to work for a leading charity who are looking to recruit a Press Officer to join their team in Peterborough.

You will proactively manage their profile and reputation in trade and mainstream media, and on social media, achieving high visibility and impact in preferred outlets. You will deliver the Media Relations Strategy, drawing on specialist PR\/journalistic experience, technical and analytical skill to take the lead on complex or controversial press issues, communicating their work and the benefits it creates for industry.

You will also provide expert advice on media handling and PR to the Exec, Board, Leadership Team, and colleagues across the business, briefing and accompanying spokespeople on interviews and broadcast opportunities. This includes liaising with journalists, fielding queries, and working with colleagues across the organisation to provide media comment and statements, often to tight deadlines.

The ideal candidate will have led on proactive campaigns, securing, national and regional coverage and managed reactive media enquiries and media relations.

Essential skills required:

* A relevant degree, equivalent vocational qualification or experience
* Time spent in a busy in-house press office or agency environment, providing media relations advice to senior stakeholders
* Excellent written and oral communication skills, strong proofreading skills, and ability to create high-quality content in a range of formats, including blogs and social media content and provide guidance and advice to colleagues to do the same
* Political awareness in terms of both national and regional government
* Experience in planning, managing, implementing and evaluating proactive media relations strategies
* Experience in reputation management and crisis communications
* Experience of working proactively with journalists in trade and national media to produce positive media coverage
* Excellent communication, influencing and diplomacy skills in order to be able to achieve the right outcome

Desirable skills required:

* Experience as a journalist
* Experience in filming and editing videos and audio for social media.
