Overview / Responsibilities

Wood is looking to recruit an Environmental Regulation Consultant looking to further their career in environmental consultancy in the nuclear sector. We have opportunities available at Consultant, and Senior Consultant grades.

We have opportunities to support work in Nuclear new build, operations and decommissioning across aspects of permitting, compliance, optimisation, technical assessment, radioactive waste management and radiological impact assessment. You would have the opportunity to support, or drive aspects of the growth of our business with a focus on our nuclear sector.

Our regulation team, as part of a broad technical environmental team, has a long track record of exciting roles supporting all aspects of environmental regulation with high profile clients. We are currently working on projects with clients leading on nuclear new build, operations and decommissioning in the UK, and internationally. There will also be opportunities to support other teams on environment and sustainability related projects.

The role can be based in any of our UK office locations (London, Glasgow, Reading, Bristol, Leamington, Leeds, Birmingham, Shrewsbury, Knutsford and Newcastle) and for the right candidate the location of this role can be flexible with the option to mix home and office working subject to the requirements of the work.

Key Responsibilities:


Your role will involve working as part of a team to secure and deliver environmental permitting, compliance and regulatory projects within a selection of the following fields: radioactive waste management, radiological impact assessment, decommissioning, design environmental optimisation, permit applications, risk assessment, compliance and management arrangements support, strategy and policy development.

You will have the opportunity to lead and support client relationships and projects, preparing proposals, negotiating with clients, managing projects, associates and subcontractors, interpreting results and delivery of technical reports in line with client and regulatory requirements.

Skills / Qualifications

  • You will have a relevant first degree (or equivalent) in science and /or engineering.
  • Awareness of the environmental issues facing the nuclear sector companies and a broad understanding of relevant legislation.
  • Expert technical knowledge in one or more aspects of environmental nuclear regulation.
  • Post-graduate experience of working on, or for, nuclear sites, experience as a consultant and/or Regulatory would be valuable.
  • Ability to hold security clearance at SC level.
