Hours: 45 hours per week
We have an exciting opportunity to join our established Highways team as a Driver Chargehand.

What you will be doing in this role
You'll safely carry out repairs and improvements to a variety of built environment infrastructure such as modular paving, kerb installation, bituminous macadam laying, concreting, pipe laying, hard and soft landscaping including drainage repair, excavation and shoring.
You'll apply safe methods of working through the use of PPE, correct manual handling, use of small plant and equipment such as excavators, roller/breaker, compaction equipment, dumpers, motorised circular saws and other highways related equipment.
You'll adhere to the Health & Safety at Work Act, Road Traffic Act and follow procedures relating to Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) regulations.
You'll drive a range of vehicles with a gross weight of up to and including 32 tonnes Heavy Goods Vehicle (HGV) including tractors, tippers, HIAB crane, tail lift, platform, pick ups and transit vans.
You'll plan workload objectives and allocate work to the team, monitoring standard and performance in line with business objectives.
You'll understand and follow procedures relating to Hand Arm Vibration Syndrome regulations (HAVS).
You'll participate in highways emergency call out and winter services during and out of hours, ensuring the roads of Stockport are kept free of ice and snow in accordance with Stockport Council winter service policy and emergency response.
What we are looking for
You'll have experience working on civil engineering projects with competency in a range of construction activities.
You'll have working knowledge and application of design drawings, specifications and civil engineering techniques.
You'll be conversant in all Health and Safety in an operational environment including COSHH and HAVS.
You'll hold an NVQ Level 2 or above in Construction Operations
You'll hold a current Class C licence, including Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) and able to conduct pre use checks, defect reporting/rectification and gross vehicle weight limits (over loading).
You'll work flexibly and in the interest of the business and be amenable to business needs.
