Their leading edge indoor vertical farming towers allow IGS to control the weather and grow a range of plants, crops, fruit and herbs simultaneously at optimum conditions anywhere in the world.

Employing over 100 staff between sites in Edinburgh, outside Dundee and Inverkeithing in Fife, we are starting to sell vertical farming towers globally. We have an ongoing requirement to continually improve the capability of the Hardware team and need to recruit a Senior Controls Engineer.

Reporting into the Head of Hardware Engineering, the Senior Controls Engineer will have the responsibility for producing robust customer ready control systems. You will be refining and adding features to our existing SCADA control systems and create new logic for future machines. Simple motion, safety, routine logic, HMI and IoT comms is implemented on most of our machines. You will work across a team spanning multiple disciplines; including, Research, Hardware and Software Engineering, Supply Chain and Customer Support.

Key responsibilities include:

Creating PLC code
Creating documentation
Developing interface control schematics
Consulted on the selection of sensors, mechanical actuators and controls
SIL Safety assessment
Validating control systems to agreed test specifications
Occasionally supporting the commissioning at customer sites
Educated to degree calibre in a technical/engineering discipline you are a proven Controls Systems Engineer / control systems developer. You will have a solid understanding of IEC6113-3 standard PLC development languages with expertise in Ladder Logic, have certified capability for Safety assessment to EN(phone number removed):2015 Safety of Machinery and a working familiarity with the needs of the Machinery, EMC and Low Voltage directives. Demonstrable experience managing software revision and configuration control and any knowledge of Omron Sysmac environments would be a distinct advantage.
