Job description
Capgemini Engineering are currently growing their Bristol-based digital/software division and are looking for a Junior Product Owner/Backlog Manager to join the team. The successful applicant's first assignment will be to support the creation of a key, customer-facing solution for a leading aerospace manufacturing company.
If you are only interested in writing code, then this role is not for you. We are always looking for high-quality developers, but this role is one operating at a level above the team, providing the main technical interface between software teams and customers. At the same time, this is a primarily technical role, focused on shaping the technical solution.
Projects are almost always team-based, and you will be working alongside intelligent, motivated, and thoughtful individuals from both Capgemini and our customers. Innovations and solutions are generally collaborative, and you can expect your ideas heard, but also challenged.
Your role
Our team primarily focuses on software development, but you will be working at a higher level than a coder or architect. There may be the occasional opportunity to contribute code, and knowledge/experience of modern coding and software development approaches are highly desirable, however you will be more interested in solving the higher-level challenges of converting technical, often complex requirements into features and stories, ready for the architects and software developers to convert into your solution.
This role is primarily focused on software-based solutions, however the team often diversifies to accommodate broader solutions, such as hardware or other technological approaches to identifying the optimum solution for our customers. In all cases, you will work with a broad range of stakeholders, to help define a range of modern, high-quality solutions, with these often including both the end customers and senior managers, all feeding in requirements.
With an often highly technical customer base, you will often be faced with the challenge of understanding specialist domains and unravelling the complexity of their requirement to lead the definition of simple, concise, and effective technology solutions. You will need to be able learn fast, and be an excellent listener, capable of rapidly building strong working relationships with customers and stakeholders, while simultaneously ensuring that their expectations are managed, and that their feature/improvement requests are backed by an understanding of the value they will provide.
Ultimately, the team will be looking to you to ensure that the solution delivers the maximum value to their stakeholders and customers. To achieve this, you will be the authority for the solution definition and prioritisation of development effort.
Key responsibilities include:
*
Converting stakeholder, SME and business requirements into features and stories that can be easily understood, estimated, and delivered by the software team
*
Capturing user and technical requirements from stakeholders and other sources
*
Identifying acceptance criteria and defining approaches for testing them
*
Supporting user testing, capturing details of bugs or missing functionality
*
Supporting the creation/update of user guides, training materials and documentation
*
Assist in capturing system and development performance metrics
*
Contributing to regular team meetings
*
Supporting developers in their implementation of epics, features, and stories
*
Creating documents or delivering presentations to support technical and business decisions

*
Managing interactions with multiple stakeholders
*
Adept at seeing things from other's viewpoints
*
Problem solving (particularly unravelling complexity)
*
Strong team player
*
Numerate degree or equivalent experience
*
Able to quickly learn new technical areas and domains
*

*
