Job description

Community Southwark is the infrastructure organisation for the Voluntary and Community Sector in Southwark. We aim to bring about positive change for people living in Southwark by championing, supporting and working with the wonderful and diverse organisations and individuals that make up the voluntary and community sector (VCS) in Southwark.

We support non-profit organisations to run effectively, efficiently, sustainably and legally through providing a range of activities including training, face-to-face advice, online resources, holding events for information and engagement as well as hosting networks and working groups and providing policy insights and influence.

We also work with individuals and informal groups on social action, engagement, supporting campaigns, providing information on how you can get involved in improving your community and more. We are a champion for the sector and look to ensure we have a seat at the right table on its behalf. We host Healthwatch Southwark and have strong and productive links with the VCS in Southwark, its funders, Southwark Council, Partnership Southwark and others. We are now looking to recruit for a new CEO, and I am delighted you are considering applying for it.

This is an exciting role for a change maker and social activist with political acumen and excellent senior leadership, diplomacy, team working and interpersonal skills. If you are committed to supporting and advocating on behalf of our member oganisations at a strategic and localism level, and as comfortable working with local residents as you are with politicians and public servants, then this could be the perfect job for you. A new CEO will join Community Southwark at an exciting time for the organisation and following a period of change you will get the chance to implement and embed a number of organisational changes such as a move to new premises and implementing the 2022- 2026 strategy to name just a few. While the 2 strategy will not complete until early 2022, it is likely focus will be .

- The needs of ethnic minority led groups in Southwark.

- Strengthening the representation and advocacy for Southwark VCS;

- Ensuring the sustainability of Community Southwark by fundraising for our own building via our Designated Property Fund.

About the role

Acting as ambassador for Southwark VCS, you will provide the public face for our activities, supporting the voluntary sector and wider communities in Southwark. You will lead the organisation and its membership in building the local VCS capacity and direction in collaboration with others. A key element of the role will be to maintain and develop relationships with stakeholders in local government, Partnership Southwark and business acting as a conduit between all these sectors.
