Job description

My client a reputable buy-side institution require a Chief Risk Officer. The Chief Risk Officer is responsible for identifying, assessing, monitoring, and making measured judgements on all current and future risks faced within the business. This will be a new and senior role, reporting directly to the CEO.

Within the group there are 30 regulated firms, with offices in 11 jurisdictions. Focused on ultra-high net worth and corporate clients, and institutional investors, group activities encompass wealth management, fund management, real estate, merchant banking, private equity, corporate finance, broker-dealer activity, trust and administration, and private office operations

The Chief Risk Officer will and be responsible for the following disciplines within the structure: Prudential Risk, Operational Risk, Market Risk, Credit Risk, Compliance Risk and Reputation Risk. The CRO will be involved in developing risk systems coupled with risk projects, including the IFPR and ICARA.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and direct the risk function, as a partner to the business, support growth and retain risk management disciplines to achieve strategic goals
  • Working across borders within a complex and varied structure encompassing numerous jurisdictions and disciplines
  • Oversight of Prudential Risk Management, including IFPR and maintaining the ICARA
  • Maintain direct/or functional oversight of the Risk Management operations
  • Ensure risk overview of portfolios, ensuring appropriate risk disciplines are in place
  • Identifying emerging risk issues and initiate mitigation strategies
  • Manage key relationships with internal/external auditors
  • Communicate and oversee implementation of risk strategy and policies
  • In liaison with the Compliance Department ensure Compliance Risk is effectively managed
  • Ensure that there is a Operational Risk and Internal Control (ORIC) structure established throughout the business, and the appropriate controls are implemented where necessary
  • Ensure the development and execution of annual testing based on risk assessments, internal/external audit, and regulatory reports is achieved
  • Maintain cost discipline and consolidate risk expense
  • Reporting to the relevant Boards and Committees

Qualifications:

  • Worked in demanding operational environments preferably internationally to gain insight into most effective risk management applications, and possess the ability to leverage and influence
  • Working across all levels of a business to understand cross-functional linkages and inter-dependencies, as well as the implications for risk at the strategic level and business level
