Job description

Our client has over 220 employees and 28 Partners advising on circa $20bn of assets across four service lines - investment advisory, co-investments, merchant banking and family office services.

JOB MISSION

This is an exciting opportunity for a technically strong candidate to work in a fast pace and challenging environment within a multinational company. The candidate will join the existing compliance team in London, which currently comprises the Chief Compliance Officer ("CCO"), Director of Compliance, a regulatory lawyer, and three supporting staff. The successful candidate will be reporting to the Director of Compliance.

In the UK, our client has a wide range of FCA directly regulated firms and JV/subsidiary appointed representatives, in all about 20 regulated entities. The primary focus will be on the retail investment advisory division which manages ultra-high net worth client accounts on a discretionary and advisory basis. Other divisions, which are professional client only businesses, engage in merchant banking, corporate finance, corporate broking, real estate partnerships, managing REITs and operating an AIFM.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Undertaking the Compliance Monitoring Programme to review compliance with the FCA Handbook, including client file reviews.
  • Prepare monthly or quarterly compliance monitoring reports as appropriate to the boards of the operating firms and work with the Director of Compliance and the firms to resolve any issues identified.
  • Assisting in tracking relevant regulatory changes and amending policies, procedures and compliance oversight and monitoring plan
  • Assisting in producing risk policies and implementing related procedures.
  • Working closely with operational teams on their procedures
  • Carrying out some required filings and other responsibilities in relation to the group's AIFM operations
  • Assisting in coordinating and reviewing financial promotions sign off
  • Working with other members of the team as necessary on special projects, e.g. corporate acquisitions and changes in control
  • Helping to standardise monitoring and oversight throughout the overseas group operations
  • Providing compliance and awareness training as needed to operational staff
  • Assisting with oversight of SMCR procedures
  • Assisting with UN PRI reporting and ESG oversight
  • Monitor the regulatory environment to keep abreast of current legislation, key regulatory initiatives and future developments and interpret the impact on all business areas.
  • Promoting good lines of communication to encourage staff to report compliance issues or potential concerns.
  • Investigating customer complaints.
  • Assessing business processes and identify risks to firm's and regulator's requirements.
  • Understanding how current procedures are designed to reduce identified risks.
  • Review and assess the effectiveness of procedures and controls in practice.
  • Reviewing procedures to ensure staff are assessed as competent for the responsibilities they are allocated and provide guidance on potential development areas.
  • Monitoring ongoing training (including CPD) for individuals performing approved, certified or controlled functions, and reviewing efficacy of training.

QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPETENCIES

  • A minimum of two years retail wealth management compliance experience, ideally with HNWI and UHNWI.
  • Knowledge of AIFMD desirable
  • Strong IT skills (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
  • Proven to be discrete and trusted with sensitive information.
  • To demonstrate the ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team with a 'can do' attitude and to maintain a positive approach to working under pressure in a busy environment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with people at all levels of seniority.
  • Highly organised and able to work under pressure.
  • Excellent attention to detail, conscientious, diligent and proactive.
  • Strong interpersonal skills (verbal and written communication).
  • To use initiative to progress tasks within the limits of his/her own ability.
  • Ability to multi-task and a proven ability to work unsupervised and operate with a high degree of autonomy.
