Foundational Infrastructure provides global thought leadership, solution development, delivery and support for a broad suite of technology products and services at Goldman Sachs. It leverages global expertise to develop leading-edge technology solutions that meet business demands and differentiate the firm's technology offerings in the marketplace. Technology Infrastructure enables the operation of the firm by managing an extensive compute platform and global communication networks, while addressing technology, compliance and reputational risk and resilience.
Your Impact
Middleware Engineering within Foundational Infrastructure is responsible for providing an opinionated, standardized set of tools and services to enable building of middleware applications at the firm, where middleware consists of Databases, Big data & Messaging systems. The team is seeking an experienced database technologist with expertise in Sybase and/or DB2 database administration. The individual will have significant experience in managing a large database estate, and be able to advise on architectural best practices. Experience of analytical databases and database clustering technologies will be of benefit.

Your Impact

The team is seeking an experienced database technologist with expertise in Sybase and/or DB2 database administration. Responsibilities :
- Provide Primary DBA responsibilities including support of the various application development teams through advising on design, implementing solutions and optimizing databases for the applications.
- Perform system performance reviews and effect optimizations that yield commercial improvements.
- Provide technical guidance on established infrastructure best practices to the IT community and business
- Develop automation systems using Java and Python to further empower our end users, streamline our operations, and reduce manual implementation
- Research and evaluate new database products and work with our application clients to find the right fit for solving their problems
- Provide support for database standardization programs from design, development and implementation
- Provide production support and work on building the database infrastructure globally
Skills and experience:
- IBM DB2, Sybase ASE / IQ database administration experience required
- Ability to manage database operations at scale
- Ability to balance core development work with more traditional DBA responsibilities
- Excellent analytical skills in understanding issues and devising specific database solutions for global applications
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including experience speaking to technical and business audiences
- Working knowledge of the Unix/Linux Operating systems.
- Ability to work as part of a global team
- The candidate must be able to navigate and deliver strategic initiatives in a consensus driven culture. This includes the ability to work with and influence key stakeholders who will not have direct reporting lines to his/her organisation.
