Java Developer - London based - Hybrid work from home / onsite work location

Software Power Betfair

At Paddy Power Betfair, we are building the most advanced betting platform in the world. Our developers work on some of the biggest technical challenges in the gambling and financial industries. They are responsible for the software that handles more than 5 billion requests per day, manages billions of pounds of our customers' money, and the underlying real-time analysis of the complex data resulting from this high throughput, low-latency platform.

What You'll Do

Complete a six-week onboarding programme to learn about the domain and get up to speed with unfamiliar technology
Work on a wide variety of projects across the entire business as part of a cross-product and cross-brand department
Design and develop highly available, resilient, and distributed backend services in Java and KDB+
Run complex analyses on Big Data in real-time with sub-second latency to gain an edge over competitors and identify the behaviour patterns of bad actors within our ecosystem
Measure the performance and availability of our tech stack - to track inefficiencies and continuously improve our software
Understand our customer's behaviours and use cases to offer the best experience possible through the software you deliver
Evangelise code quality and good practices, continuous delivery, and automation within an Agile environment
Take control of your personal growth within a supportive environment and guided by your own mentor

Technology You'll Use

Java to write most of our application code
Kafka for our asynchronous message queue
KDB+ for our real time data analytics
Boxever for the decisioning of our group-wide personalisation capability
AWS for our public cloud offering
I2 as our own private cloud offering for most of our infrastructure
Python / Bash to write scripts
Jenkins to create deployment stages
Go to link the deployments into pipelines
Ansible to automate app deployment
Splunk for monitoring and alerting
.NET to manage our catalogue
Oracle DB to persist our data
Linuxas the main platform of choice

You Should Apply If

You have more than 2 years software development experience in Java, KDB+ or other programming languages
Are passionate about technology and care about code quality and best practices
Are keen to contribute towards the vision of our next generation platform
Are willing to take on new challenges and work on different projects and applications
You love collaborating with other developers, happy to do pair programming
You have working proficiency and communication skills in verbal and written English
