Job description

Hackney Council is looking for an enthusiastic and dedicated digital communications professional to lead a new team in its award-winning Communications and Engagement service.

The Council's mission is to rebuild a better Hackney in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic, but it can only achieve this by using data and insight to reach more of its residents and partners online, driving behaviour change.

That's why it's created a new Digital Communications team to strategically manage and drive growth of its social media, email and instant messaging platforms, keep pace with digital trends and make sure its campaigns have the biggest impact.

This role is your opportunity to lead this new team and shape the Council's digital communications - developing talent, establishing a digital first culture and working with our content design teams to ensure our residents are at the heart of our online platforms.

You'll be the Council's digital communications specialist, providing advice to the Mayor, Cabinet and senior officers, analysing and influencing the performance of our wider communications team's work and being the enemy of boring, dull content.

You'll be a digital marketing expert and online native, with experience of leading exceptional campaigns, launching and growing new channels and using data and evaluation to target audiences. You'll also bring an instinctive feel for what works on what platform, and how to plan it effectively. You'll also be a first-class communicator yourself, at ease presenting to councillors, senior leaders and Council services.

You'll be used to juggling multiple projects and working collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to achieve your communications objectives. A good understanding of local government or working in a political organisation is preferable, but it doesn't matter if that's not your background - it matters that you're passionate about public service.
