Job description

About EngineeringUK

EngineeringUK is a not-for-profit organisation, which works in partnership with the engineering community to inform and inspire young people and grow the number and diversity of tomorrow's engineers. We work locally, regionally and nationally with a wide range of organisations across business and industry, education, professional institutions and the third sector to develop and promote effective initiatives and programmes to inspire young people to consider a career in engineering. Everyone who works at EngineeringUK is committed to inspiring and informing young people about engineering. We are looking for someone who has similar levels of commitment to join our organisation at such an exciting time.

We are guided by a series of values that we apply to all our activity.

We are insightful and open and honest with our insight so that everything we to inspire young people into engineering is based on clear and up-to-date evidence, gained by listening to and learning from our community.

We are courageous and dynamic in the development, piloting and promotion of ideas and activities which can help us all to inspire tomorrow's engineers and increase the talent pipeline for engineering.

We are passionate about inspiring a new generation on engineers and a positive difference to young people's lives.

We are inclusive, with partnership and collaboration at the heart of what we do. We are determined to reach those people who are under-represented in modern engineering.

About the role

The Engagement Projects Co-ordinator will primarily focus on supporting the delivery of the Robotics Challenge, an in-schools programme that teaches robotics and coding skills to students aged 11-14 years. The programme aims to increase students' knowledge of engineering and the jobs that exist in this sector through hands-on coding challenges linked to the environment and sustainability. Schools receive everything they need to take part in the programme for free, including SPIKE Prime robotics kits and we have a bursary system to support schools that meet our EDI criteria to attend competition heats and finals. Through the challenge we aim for a minimum of 50% of participating schools to be those that meet our EDI criteria. Currently the programme is delivered in schools by teachers with face-to-face competition heats and finals, however, we will need to remain flexible with our approach to delivery as the pandemic continues. During the next 10 months, the team will be conducting research to determine how best to adapt the programme for September 2022 and beyond to increase our impact on girls and other under-represented groups.

The role will work closely with the Head of Engagement projects, internal teams including Communications and Research, as well as external delivery partners who directly with schools taking part in the challenge and funders of the challenge to ensure the successful delivery of the Robotics Challenge programme. The role will report into the Head of Engagement Projects.

The role will be based at the EngineeringUK offices at 10 Lower Thames Street, London EC3R 6EN with occasional travel in the UK. We are currently adopting a hybrid approach, with a blend of home and office-based work.

Work closely with the Head of EDI to administer the bursary scheme for EDI criteria meeting schools.
Co-ordinate meetings and provide meeting support including creation of agendas and minutes
Work closely with the project delivery partners and internal evaluation team to ensure adequate evaluation surveys are submitted
Manage the delivery of a primary pilot scheme, including the recruitment of 20 schools to take part in the programme, ensuring they receive all the information and equipment needed to take part, and managing our relationship with the IET who manage the First Lego League Explore programme which our pilot scheme schools will be participating in.
Support the delivery of the Robotics Challenge finals to be held at The Big Bang Fair (a STEM engagement event for 11-14 year olds, ran by EngineeringUK) in June 2022.
