Job description
In the heart of London's Knowledge Quarter, the Aga Khan Centre is a place for education, knowledge, cultural exchange and insight into Muslim Civilisations. Home to three organisations founded by His Highness the Aga Khan, the hereditary spiritual leader of the Shi'a Ismaili Muslims: The Institute of Ismaili Studies (IIS), the Aga Khan University Institute for the Study of Muslim Civilisations (AKU-ISMC) and the Aga Khan Foundation UK (AKF-UK). These Institutions have been operating in the UK for decades and are part of a mission and mandate to increase knowledge and understanding of Muslim civilisations and help improve the quality of life for people around the world.
This building is designed to represent the values of openness, dialogue and respect for different viewpoints (pluralism). The architecture incorporates a collection of gardens, courtyards and terraces that provides an insight into the diversity and influence of Islamic landscape design around the world and through history.
The Centre is primarily designed for an academic community, with places for students, scholars and staff to share ideas and work together alongside flexible teaching spaces and quiet research areas.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
General
To ensure heating plant and equipment is efficiently and effectively operated, and defects and malfunctions Setting clear targets and objectives for the team.
Proactively managing workflow, priorities, and performance.
Manage, coach, and develop the teams' skill levels.
Establish and maintain effective partnerships within the Foundation and develop strong working partnerships both internally and externally.
Implement and monitor strategy, policy, service and financial plans and the budget, to provide best value for the Foundation.
Ensure effective deployment of resources.
Help to manage the mechanical and electrical budgets.
Act as a best practice champion, identifying and implementing opportunities to improve the innovative use of resources in realising efficiencies.
Role Specific
Provide technical expertise to all mechanical and electrical aspects of property compliance, including fire safety equipment, water safety plant, gas safety, electrical safety, lifts and other property safety related matters, including ensuring 'Best Practice' is implemented in the delivery of the service.
Undertake day-to-day operational responsibility for all mechanical and electrical property related safety compliance within the building and take pro-active measures to address any areas of non-compliance.
Assist in mechanical and electrical procurement activities for all property related safety compliance.
Ensure accurate records are kept for all mechanical and electrical property related safety compliance areas and appropriate reporting is undertaken.
Respond to emergencies, on occasion during unsocial hours, and participate in a rota to provide response cover.
Contribute to strategic and operational risk management activities, within the remit of the role.
Actively participate in specific learning and development activities and to continually develop skills and abilities within the role.
Assist in setting clear standards and performance targets to all areas of mechanical and electrical property compliance and monitor and report on progress in meeting them.
Carry out and support effective people management including performance management and absence management, coaching, development, and mentoring through formal and informal training.
Provide property related mechanical and electrical safety guidance and awareness training to service delivery teams.
Assist in the production of Policy and Procedure documents for all mechanical and electrical property safety compliance areas.
Assist in ensuring that subject service requests and complaints in relation to mechanical and electrical property safety are promptly investigated and the finding(s) acted on in a timely and proportionate manner.
Identify improvements to processes and systems to ensure the effective and efficient provision of the service.
Assist in internal and external audits for mechanical and electrical property safety.
Attend meetings with the Foundation and other organisations, including public groups as required, sometimes outside normal office hours.
Assist in the effective management of budgets for mechanical and electrical property safety.
Deputise for the Facilities and Maintenance Manager as and when required.
Undertake site inspections of works as required.
To take responsibility for your own health and safety, and that of anybody else who may be affected by your acts or omissions.
Assist in the integration of new services, functions, and staff into the team in line with corporate strategies and any future service change.
