The Baobab Centre

The Baobab Centre provides rehabilitation support to young asylum seekers and refugees who have experienced human rights abuses. Baobab provides psychotherapy, casework and advocacy as well as a wider range of community activities. We are seeking a Finance Manager to support the running of the organisation and to help our team support young asylum seekers and refugees in London.

Job Purpose:

Day to day finance management of the organisation
Prepare, develop and analyse management accounting information
Finance planning, budgeting, forecasting and annual accounts
Provide high quality support service to the Operations Team
Work 14 hours across a month (i.e. available a few hours a week not in two complete days). On some months there is the possibility of a few extra hours if necessary.

Duties and responsibilities

Production of monthly management accounts
Analysing variances and exploring potential problems with Operations Manager and Finance Committee
Making appropriate recommendations and advising of the impact of financial changes on the charity
Preparation of annual budgets (including aspirational) and producing regular reforecasts against the budget
Improving the systems surrounding all aspects of the charity's budgets, forecasts and business planning
Shared responsibility with the Operations Manager for the annual audit/examination and referral to independent examiner.
Providing financial support to the fundraising team, including information for funding applications and reports.
Support the Finance Administrator with any queries regarding payroll and the day to day finance postings in Quickbooks.
Support the Operations Team in reviewing the financial policies and procedures.
Preparing monthly accounts for the monthly Finance Committee Meetings (held in the evening).

Person specification

Accounting:

A fully qualified accountant with a thorough practical understanding of Finance Management including management accounting principles and techniques as well as an understanding of charity accounting principles.
Experience of producing annual accounts and working with Independent Examiners.
High degree of communication skills, particularly attuned to working well with non-finance professionals.
First-hand experience of planning, budgeting and forecasting
Experience working in fast moving environment providing accurate and timely information to a high standard.
Experience and understanding of charity accounts.
Experience with general finance management.

Charity Experience and Interest

Demonstrable interest in one or several of: human rights work, mental health, refugees and asylum seekers, and young people separated from their families.
Ideally with experience of working with unaccompanied refugees and asylum seekers.
Demonstrable experience working with people from different culture and backgrounds.
Ability to work flexibly with an understanding of the holistic functioning of the charity.
