Job Purpose
The Head of Health and Safety is responsible for health and safety matters across all ISG projects internationally, ensuring that the company is fully discharging its legal duties as stipulated by relevant Statutory Instruments, Codes of Practice, country specific legislation and Company Guidance.
The Head of Health and Safety will provide a strategic and governance role to multiple business units operating in different countries across Europe, Middle East and Asia. They will be responsible for ensuring legal compliance and the implementation of ISG standards on allocated projects and Client frameworks in diverse construction workstreams including Construction, Engineering, Fit Out & Retail projects.
Key Responsibilities
Formulate an annual strategic plan to ensure continual improvement within the International businesses. Align the strategic plan for International with the outputs of the ISG Group H&S plan. Lead the implementation of strategic plans, campaigns and directives provided by ISG Group Health and Safety.
Ensure that a standardised operational approach is implemented across projects within workstreams, business units and countries, giving cognisance to legal and company requirements and client requirements
Implement and maintain the aims and objectives of the Company Health and Safety policy and Health and Safety Management System, taking account of changes in legislation, best practice and Codes of Practice and local codes and standards.
Ensure the implementation of safe systems of work and ISG standards across projects and ensure all projects are consistent with these standards. Measure and monitor implementation of ISG systems and standards, make recommendations as necessary and share best practice across all Construction and Engineering projects and with ISG Group Safety.
Provide innovative Health and Safety solutions and communications, particularly 'lessons learned' and Health and Safety schemes via the Safety Leadership Teams.
Represent the International Division as part of the Health and Safety Leadership Group for ISG, attending all Group H&S meetings, forums and routines.
Actively participate and contribute towards the development of ISG Group wide H&S strategies, the development of best practices and early adoption of new / latest thinking.
Represent ISG at industry specific events and with industry governing and advisory bodies in conjunction with the ISG Group Health and Safety function
Produce monthly reports on the International businesses performance in terms of accident / incident statistics, compliance with Safety Management System and Policy etc. undertake associated statistical analysis of hours/accident data/trends etc.
Continually reviews the supply chain for our International businesses to ensure those contractors with a poor Health and Safety record and performance are not used. Ensures assessment of the supply chain by auditing and monitoring against key performance indicators
Monitor the effectiveness of our International businesses Health and Safety standards and performance, assisting our staff by site inspections and audit and report on prevention improvements necessary. Ensure continuous improvement by continual research and development
Support work winning through the provision of technical support and knowledge to Estimating and Proposals in preparation of tenders, dealing with client pre-qualifications and submissions and prepare, attend and deliver client presentations as required
Liaise and build valuable internal relationships with the Sustainability teams and externally with established Health and Safety governing bodies, councils and corporations
Ensure that an appropriate level of audit/inspection of work places and practices is carried out in accordance with the risk profile and a monitored programme.
Ensure compliance with all reporting requirements including maintaining records of internal and enforcing Authority visits to sites; Client audit reports; all reportable accidents / incidents, near misses and dangerous occurrences and project safety audits/inspections
Lead by setting a personal example and actively promote at all levels the company's commitment to effective Health and Safety.
Review and keep updated with country specific and new legislation and industry best practice
Ensure legal compliance with ISG policies and procedures to ensure that all operational and reputational risks are mitigated
Ensure the investigation of all accidents / incidents and near misses and timely recommendations to prevent further occurrence. All significant accidents / incidents and near misses are to be shared within the ISG Group of Companies within agreed timeframes via the Group Safety functionParticipate in and or chair key internal forums / workshops including monthly Health and Safety meetings and key supply chain workshops
Ensure the appropriate governance is in place for our International businesses, so that decisions do not put ISG, ISG Staff, ISG's reputation and contractors at risk and that ISG's processes and local H&S legislation is complied with
Qualifications and Experience
Qualified to NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent standard
Experience in overseeing business units with multiple projects and critical client relationships
Experience of leading and coaching a team
Experienced in the implementing health and safety strategies across wide range of complex and geographically spread projects
Driving the Safety Differently principles
Language skills would be an advantage
