Lead Backend Developer

Salary: £75-95k annual depending on relevant experience.

We're looking for an experienced Lead Backend Developer with a strong technical background, a passion for real-world problem solving, and a commitment to creating a world-class reliable and scalable, low-latency athlete-and-ball tracking stack.

As a Lead Backend Developer:

* A key focal area of this role will be to help create, shape and manage a highly motivated backend team.

* You will be responsible for the technical definition and delivery of enhancements and features to our back-end, written in Golang.

* Your code will run on pitch-side hardware, AWS and 5G powered mobile-edge computing platforms such as Wavelength.

* You will be exposed to machine learning techniques and algorithms for detecting and classifying complex sporting events in real-time, streaming data, database design and synchronization, API design, networking and CI/CD.

* You'll be supported by a highly talented, multidisciplinary and close-knit team of engineers, data scientists and sports scientists.

Lead Backend Developer Required skills / Experience

*

Computer Science Degree (or equivalent) - 1st

*

6+ year's experience in software development

*

Golang (or strong experience in other mainstream languages e.g. C++/Java), basic Python experience desirable

*

SQL Databases (schema design, optimization, synchronization, etc. Postgresql desirable)

*

Linux

*

AWS / Cloud Infrastructure (Virtualization, Infrastructure as code, Security, Containerisation, etc.)

*

Network protocols (HTTP, TCP/UDP, Socket programming, Websockets, MQTT/AMQP)

*

Networking (DHCP, DNS, Firewalls, VPN, VLAN, etc.)

*

Experience leading an agile software development team

*

Testing, CI/CD, Version control (GIT)

Lead Backend Developer Responsibilities

*

Deliver reliable, testable, documented, clean code to progress and maintain backend (written in Golang)

*

Estimate and plan work packages and lead their execution

*

Ensure suitability of features and interoperability with frontend and lower layer server modules (embedded systems)

*

Give input on the architecture of new and existing projects

*

Input on backend technologies in our stack and keep us in line with industry best practices

*

Help develop and improve our cloud architecture
