Post: Floating Support & Peer Support Worker (Dual Role) - Domestic AbuseResponsible to: Team ManagerLocation: NewhamSalary: Floating Support Salary = £22,548 pro rata per year rising to £23,112 pro rata per year after successful completion of 9 month probation and 12 months continuous service. Peer Support Salary = £23,112 per year rising to £23,760 per year after successful completion of 9 month probation and 12 months continuous service. (Please note that the salary is split and will be averaged between both roles based on 39 hours p/w)Weekly contracted Hours: 39 hours per week on average split between rolesContract Type: PermanentClosing date: 5 October 2021Interview date: TBC August 2021Please note that although the closing date for this vacancy is 5 October 2021, in order to avoid disappointment please apply at your earliest convenience as we will be interviewing candidates on a rolling basisAbout the Service/Department:Newham Domestic and Sexual Violence Support Service is a community based integrated service providing support to individuals who have experienced domestic and/ or sexual violence including Domestic Abuse, Sexual Violence, Forced Marriage, Honour Based Violence, Female Genital Mutilation and Sex Workers.The Role:Floating Support Worker: Working with survivors of domestic and other gender based violence survivors in Newham.Peer Support Worker: To support women and men who experienced domestic and other forms of gender based violence, including people involved in sex working to increase their self confidence and rebuild their lives free of violence. To lead on the development of a robust and meaningful peer support program within Newham DSVSS. To Co-produce Peer Support Groups, training sessions to the wider community.Please see the attached job description for full role responsibilitiesPersonal SpecificationExcellent knowledge domestic and other gender based violence issuesExcellent knowledge of domestic violence legislation, including civil and criminal law remedies available to the survivorsExcellent knowledge and understanding of effects of domestic and other gender based violence on survivorsExcellent knowledge of housing legislation and in particular aspects relating to survivors of domestic and other gender based violence crimes.Great listening and advocating skillsAbility to empower service usersAbility to work effectively within multiagency settingsKnowledge and understanding of safeguardingAbility to work independently with minimal supervisionBeing proactive and solution focusGreat team working skills and ability to work within a team structureKnowledge and understanding of safeguarding issues and ability to address them appropriatelyIf you want to do an ASYE, and you fit the criteria, Hestia will support you to join our existing programme.About HestiaHestia supports adults and children in crisis across London and the surrounding regions. We campaign and advocate nationally on the issues that affect them. This includes victims of modern slavery, women and children who have experienced domestic abuse, young care leavers and older people. From giving someone a home, to helping them to get the right mental health support, we support people at the moment of crisis and enable them to build a life beyond crisis. We are supported by more than 460 volunteers who provide specialist skills such as art therapy yoga, IT, gardening, cooking as well as befriending and fundraising.Holidays: 195 hours per year, plus 62.4 hours public holidays (full time equivalent). Our holiday year runs from April until March.Safeguarding: Hestia is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of adults, children and young people who are potentially at risk, and we therefore expect all staff and volunteers to do the same.
