Are you a passionate, collaborative and influential individual with experience of working with socially excluded adults? If so, join St Giles as a Peer Advisor and Placement Coordinator where you will provide a high-level service to learners (Peer Advisers) with lived experience whilst they undertake our L3 Peer Advisor Programme, ensuring they have the skills needed to successfully access employment within their local communities.
About St Giles and their Peer Advisor Programme
An ambitious, well-established charity that helps people facing adversity to find jobs, homes and the right support they need. Central to our ethos is our belief that people with first-hand experience of successfully overcoming issues such as an offending background, homelessness, addictions and gang involvement, hold the key to positive change in others.
Central to the life-changing work St Giles does is our Peer Advisor Programme. This innovative programme of training, placement, professional development and support is aimed at ex-offenders and other disadvantaged people, where the ultimate goal for each individual is to achieve a Level 3 Certificate in Advice and Guidance and to progress onto further opportunities and sustainable employment. We train Peer Advisors in more than 30 prisons across the country, plus a number of community locations, including London, Wales and Yorkshire.
About this exciting opportunity
As a key part of a community-based Peer Hub Team, working as part of the national Peer Advisor Network representing St Giles, you will focus on providing Peer Advisors with the tools and to help Identify a range of specialist support services such as housing, debt and substance misuse services, ETE and support participants to access them.
Your broad range of duties will include conducting inductions and acting as a mentor for new Peer Advisors, supporting the set-up of the Advice and Guidance course and working with participants to produce individual action plans. You will also provide one-to-one support to those undertaking the Programme, including as they train and throughout their placement, plus identify and establish progression routes into further learning, work placement and employment opportunities.
What we are looking for:
Experience of building and maintaining partnership opportunities in relation to placements/volunteering.
Experience of delivering employment-related workshops
An understanding of the issues faced by participants in accessing and sustaining training or employment
A collaborative, flexible and professional approach to your work
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Strong IT, time-management and prioritisation abilities, and the ability to work on your own initiative
In return, you can expect a competitive salary, generous leave allowance, staff pension, flexible working, a mentoring programme, an advice and counselling service, access to clinical supervision, season ticket loan and much more.
