Job description

The East London Refugee Resettlement Support Team is a new team, working with newly arrived families from Afghanistan in the London borough of Newham.

Our vision is of a society where everyone has a place to call home and the chance to live a fulfilling life.We help single Londoners by preventing homelessness, providing support and accommodation, promoting wellbeing, enhancing opportunity, and being a voice for change. From supporting people in crisis to helping people take the final steps towards independence and employment, we make a difference to 10,000 lives every year across all 32 boroughs.

As the post-holder, you will work as part of a small team to provide intensive resettlement and integration support to a caseload of families of various sizes. You will be responsible for undertaking assessments, identifying the families' strengths and needs, as well as potential barriers to integration within their local community, and ways of overcoming these.

You will work in partnership with other agencies and professionals to achieve sustainable outcomes for the families and support them towards independence in all areas of their lives.

The ideal candidate will have experience of resettling newly arrived individuals or families in the UK in a community setting. Additionally, you will have good knowledge and understanding of community and statutory services, including Mental Health Teams, Social Services, Education, Health and voluntary services, as well as good knowledge of the Benefits System.

We are seeking an individual who is highly motivated, compassionate and able to work both independently and as part of a multi-agency team. You will also have demonstrable cultural awareness and understanding of some of the issues that can arise when working with families resettled in the UK. The ability to speak the languages, Arabic, Dari or Pashto would be desirable but not essential.
