Job description
Treasury is an exciting and demanding area of our business. We raise wholesale funding, manage liquidity, and minimise interest rate risk for the Society. We're also the team with responsibility for originating structured finance transactions and managing investment portfolios as well as helping to achieve best returns on the Society's asset portfolios.
The Secured Funding Team is responsible for structuring, issuing, and maintaining wholesale funding which is secured by Nationwide's residential mortgages. There are three types of wholesale funding that the team are responsible for - covered bonds, securitisation (specifically residential mortgage-backed securities) and central bank funding schemes. This is a unique opportunity to work in a team which operates in the Financial Markets but is also responsible for regulatory and external reporting.
We are looking for an individual with a strong analytical/problem solving mindset who is interested in taking the next step in their career to join our team as a Secured Funding Analyst. Naturally, we'll expect you to be a great fit in to the culture of the Treasury team, be an advocate of everything the Society stands for and always be seeking to do the right thing.
At Nationwide we openly put our 15 million members at the centre of every decision we make as a business. Every role, no matter what it's doing, is member focused.
Your success isn't based on how long you spend at your desk. You'll have contracted hours, but we're always happy to support flexible working wherever we can. That might mean working from home or different Nationwide offices or agreeing a working pattern to help you balance work and life. We will always strive to find a way that works for everyone.
If we receive a high volume of relevant applications, we may close the advert earlier than the advertised date, so please apply as soon as you can.
What you'll be doing
- This role will focus on the structuring and reporting of secured funding. There are three core elements to the role:
- Pool management - you will be responsible for selecting suitable mortgages to be pledged across the secured funding programmes, and then monitoring these mortgage pools to maintain appropriate levels of collateralisation
- Cash management - you will be responsible for calculating and transacting the movement of cashflows that arise from pledged mortgages, bonds and swaps
- Reporting - you will be responsible for preparation and submission of reporting to regulators, investors, rating agency and other internal/external stakeholders. This also includes oversight and delivery of various audit requirements.
- Alongside this there are numerous opportunities to get involved with:
- The development and maintenance of the teams reporting function, processes, and systems.
- New initiatives (both internal and external) and consideration of the impact they may have on the Society's funding programmes.
- Be part of a team that engages with the markets to run funding transactions
- Adhoc problem solving and data analysis on vast datasets for both internal and external stakeholders.
- Engaging with other areas of the Society to see the bigger picture and understanding how the team's activities help reward our members and deliver value to Nationwide.
About you
We are looking for someone keen to work in a forward-looking team and who is not afraid of taking on a challenge. Enthusiastic and with a logical and analytical mind, you'll be able to tackle tasks individually and as part of a group; thinking of solutions that no one has considered before.
As a minimum requirement you'll need to have/be:
- A great relationship builder, with a willingness to support and your colleagues to tackle problems head on. A keen advocate of Nationwide's PRIDE values.
- Highly numerate with a strong analytical mindset and innovative thinking in relation to problem solving and solution development.
- Strong Excel and programming skills including VBA & potentially SQL, with the ability to assimilate and interpret significant volumes of data.
- Ability to pay high attention to detail and accuracy.
- Strong communication skills enabling the effective communication of issues and solutions and collaboration with a range of stakeholders.
- Self-motivated, driven by an inquiring mind and the desire to learn.
It would be nice if you also had:
- Experience or knowledge of secured funding structures and reporting
- Financial Services experience, in particular, knowledge of mortgages (products, underwriting, servicing, data)

If you feel you would be a good fit for this role and you can tell us about your transferable experience, we really encourage you to apply.
We're also interested in who you are as a person. Why? Because our membership is made up of so many different kinds of people, so we want our employees to be just as diverse.
We'd love to hear about:
- Your values, and what makes you who you are
- How you'd make a difference to our members in this role
