The Senior Human Resources Business Partner (HRBP) is a trusted advisor to the designated business group, accountable for managing all aspects of HR including employee relations, recruitment, resourcing and reward. The HRBP provides hands-on leadership and consulting on strategic initiatives relating to talent management, organization design, diversity and inclusion, learning and career development. Reporting to the Vice President, Human Resources, the incumbent works with leaders and managers from the business as well as HR Centres of Expertise (COEs) to define needs, provide input to the development of people strategies and collaborate with HR colleagues to implement them effectively.

How you'll spend your time...
Business Partnering
- Develop and maintain positive and trusting relationships which enable a strong partnership and ensure that HR advice is trusted and acted upon.
- Understand business strategy, plans and activities and drive business performance through development and delivery of people strategy and solutions.
- Provide expert commercial HR advice and meaningful data insights to business leaders and managers, guiding and influencing decisions and plans.
- Provide HR consulting and coaching services to employees and leaders on HR programmes, practices, policies, legislation and regulatory requirements including interpretation of policy, identification of risk, impact to the business and recommended solutions.
- Maintain awareness of emerging trends and best practices within asset management, financial services and more broadly using a strong HR network.
- Take a pragmatic and hands-on approach to dealing with issues and continuously improving and developing HR activities.
- Demonstrate strong business acumen and a sound understanding of the business objectives, enabling HR activities to be adapted and presented appropriately.
- Utilise strong understanding of the client group to support business leaders and line managers in forming and implementing people plans in relation to resourcing, team development, engagement, performance management, reward, talent and leadership planning
Relationship Management
- Build strong relationships with clients, and HR partners to ensure the needs of the business, strategies, workforce realities and upcoming changes are well understood. Where these relationships are not already in place proactively identify partnership opportunities to foster relationships between business and broader HR community.
- Partner with HR counterparts in the UK and North America and Senior Business Leaders to provide effective implementation of the annual HR programs.
- Ensure a strong BMO-brand aligned approach to all people related strategies.
- Provide thoughtful and effective coaching to leaders on performance management, structural and staffing issues, organisation design, employee engagement and overall organisational effectiveness
- Coach leaders to manage and maximize the skills/capabilities of their team members to create an environment of high performance and openness
Change Management
- Facilitate the effective implementation of change initiatives and new HR programs and processes. Support the client group to ensure that change is implemented as designed and in a manner that achieves the desired employee experience.
- Act as a positive force for change, challenging the status quo, both within the business client group and the HR function.
HR Operations
- Take hands-on ownership for all HR operational processes applicable to the client group ensuring that they are efficient and that the quality of service provided to managers and employees is high. Be prepared to get involved in the day to day administration as and when required to ensure that the function operates effectively.
- Understand fully applicable financial services regulation and employment legislation and contribute to the design or adaptation of HR processes and documentation accordingly.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with HR colleagues across the Centres of Expertise to leverage their support in day to day issues and in the continuous improvement of operational processes.
- Resolve escalated issues and coach HR administration team accordingly.
Risk Management
- Be a steward of the organisation's risk culture, understand and operate within the applicable risk management framework.
- Apply governance according to organisation policies and procedures, government legislation and regulatory requirements across various jurisdictions. Comply with audit processes.
Required Qualifications
To be successful in this role you will have...
Knowledge
- University degree and certified HR professional designation (such as CIPD) preferred
- Minimum seven years of progressively responsible experience in HR
- Strong generalist HR and business partnering experience in a commercial and fast paced environment
- Experience of managing HR in an international setting
- Experience of coaching and developing people

- Capacity to be highly responsive to clients' needs and able to influence senior leaders to act on HR advice.
- Ability to lead, coach and develop team members without a direct reporting line and in a way which prepares them for future career growth.
- Ability to deliver projects and collaborate with colleagues to ensure that solutions are co-ordinated.

- Advanced presentation, written and verbal communication skills which bring clarity and precision at various decision-making meetings
- Advanced problem-solving, critical-thinking and business literacy skills followed by good ability to evaluate options and alternatives to develop solutions
- Ability to lead and facilitate critical discussions (e.g. leadership performance calibration, leadership talent roundtable)
- Strong diagnosis skills followed by good ability to evaluate options/alternatives and develop solutions/recommendations for solutions to complex and multi-dimensional problems/issues
- Strong project management skills and effective execution skills to ensure successful delivery/implementation of strategic initiatives, processes and policies
