Job description

Progressive Tier 2 M&E organisation are looking for a forward thinking and passionate Senior Quantity Surveyor that ideally has worked on large scale M&E/MEP infrastructure projects. This will be provide additional support within the Commercial Team, working on large scale individual projects or multiple small/medium projects in partnership with the other SQS and Commercial Director. You will ensure all projects are running in line with budgeted forecast and maximised to increase profit through good commercial acumen and effective contract and supplier management.

Key areas -

Work with/support the Project Managers on a daily basis, to ensure projects are meeting commercial and financial targets
Build strong and collaborative relationships with both client and suppliers
Contribute to regular and accurate reporting to the Senior Quantity Surveyor and/or Commercial Manager on/for: PHR/CVR/Cash Flow/Weekly Updates etc
Responsible for the project budget and provide regular commercial forecasts
Assist in and carry out valuations for the purpose of initial, interim and final payment applications
Assess, monitor and make payments for sub-contractor and supplier accounts in line with the agreed subcontracts and upstream contractual requirements
Identify, notify, value and agree change (variations, compensation events, claims)
Work with the Senior Quantity Surveyor and Commercial Manager to maximise the recovery of all contractual entitlements
Understand and provide advice and guidance on the terms of the contract and any conditions precedent therein, not least regarding the times for giving notices and making applications
Keep contemporary records and ensure contemporary records are kept by the project team members for use in supporting claims, extensions of time, and the evaluation of variations
Assist in identifying project risks and develop and implement mitigation strategies to minimise commercial risk
Liaise with the Company's Procurement team, as necessary for the engagement of subcontractors
Liaise with the Company's Work Winning team for project hand over for opportunities secured, and support in opportunities currently bid.
Liaise with the company's Finance team to ensure a universally agreed position of cost, value, forecast and accruals Key Skills -

Previous experience within a SQS or QS position
Knowledge of NEC and JCT contracts
Previous experience within the construction industry - infrastructure
Track record of working in services (MEP) environment
Previous experience on large MEP projects
Professional memberships such as RICS, CIOB, ICES or equivalent
Degree Qualified in Quantity Surveying, or equivalent
A working understanding of valuation techniques of construction works including elemental cost analysis of items such as labour, materials, plant, sub-contract and general expenses
Able to use accounting concepts and forecasting cost and value based on programme and scope of works
Understands and has used tools for the management of project costs including the use of cost saving techniques
Has used risk identification and the use of risk registers and knows how risk is managedThis role is outside IR35
