Job Description Summary

Travelers is partnering with Brokers to help small businesses protect their assets and grow. We have ambitious growth targets and we need you to help us achieve these.

We are looking for an Underwriter to join our SME/ Small Business team to underwrite new business as well as selling and marketing all SME/ Small Business products.

You will have some prior experience within the insurance industry, ideally within Property Owners, Property & Casualty or Technology, but we're also interested in seeing applications from other lines such as eTrade, Motor or Personal Lines experience too. You'll be used to operating in a high-volume environment and may act as a technical referral resource for less experienced Small Business team members on more complex accounts, renewals, endorsements and issues.

Primary Job Duties & Responsibilities

UNDERWRITING QUALITY/PROFITIBILITY
Follow Best Practices, including Underwriting processes and Workflow management.
Ensure underwriting quality and profitability through application of the appropriate level of underwriting analysis to accept, decline, modify, rate and quote these accounts.
Responsible for ensuring compliance with underwriting strategies and regulatory requirements. Works collaboratively within SME Business Unit providing support when required.
Take corrective action and/or collaborate with the Senior/Small Business Underwriter based on identified risk characteristics.
SALES
Prequalify accounts to identify customer needs and take appropriate action.
Function as point of sale for proposal delivery and negotiation.
Positively communicating to brokers on the phone, email or other communication channels whilst administrating business.
Use commercial awareness to negotiate premium and terms on small business products to deliver sustainable profit.
E-TRADE
Utilise various technologies to quote/bind.
NEW BUSINESS MANAGEMENT.
Operates efficiently in line with the defined operational service level agreements.
Where appropriate identify opportunities to write additional lines of business using knowledge of products, risk characteristics and appetite.
Maintain and enhance understanding of Travelers products, services and solutions and initiate discussions with other business areas as appropriate.

Minimum Qualifications

Previous experience of underwriting in Property and Casualty classes of business.

Education, Work Experience, & Knowledge

Working knowledge of the local insurance marketplace.
Product/Technical proficiency commensurate to incumbent's underwriting authority.
Demonstrates basic ability in the areas of customer focus and positive broker interaction.
Use/knowledge of eTrade platforms such as Acturis/Open GI/SSP.
Demonstrates an ability and desire to learn about the enterprise and business unit critical business issues and financial drivers.
General knowledge of organisational and regulatory rules, policies and procedures and effectively employs that knowledge in day-to-day work activities.

Job Specific Technical Skills & Competencies

Basic Product/Technical proficiency commensurate to incumbent's underwriting authority.
Demonstrates basic ability in the areas of customer focus and positive broker interaction.
Basic ability to effectively coach others and provide feedback that is clear, concise and professional.
