Job description

We are looking for an energetic, self-motivated Speech and Language Therapist (SLT) to work within critical care and help us to establish the service. If you are enthusiastic, dynamic and motivated, then we would love you to join our team at East Kent Hospitals University Foundation Trust.

Our Therapies service is a dynamic and proactive team that works across our three main sites at the William Harvey Hospital in Ashford, Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother Hospital in Margate and Kent and Canterbury Hospital in Canterbury.

We form part of close MDT working on ITU and the Therapies team are key team members in the rehabilitation of patients and discharge planning. We firmly believe that developing our staff is key to success; we have a dynamic and progressive training and development ethos, providing excellent opportunities to enhance your knowledge and competencies, nurturing your personal and professional development by encouraging and supporting you to reach your full potential. We are committed to working with you to meet your learning objectives.

A relocation package is available, at the discretion of the Trust, to the successful candidate. This can be discussed with the Recruiting Manager at the Interview Stage.

This is an exciting opportunity to lead on evidence-based assessment and intervention for critically ill patients, including those who are mechanically ventilated. We are looking for qualified SLTs who will be required to support the MDT with the implementation of interventions such as cuff deflation for tracheostomy-ventilated patients and the use of above cuff vocalisation. In addition, the use of alternative and augmentative communication aids, FEES and videofluoroscopy are integral to the role. Experience of working in ITU is essential for this role.

In this post, you will be required to lead the SLT service delivery on the unit at your base site as well as working collaboratively with ITU SLTs at the other two hospital sites to ensure a comprehensive service across the Trust. You will establish and develop sound communication networks along with other clinical specialists, in order to provide a high quality, efficient service. You will develop and deliver training, clinical supervision and line management for students and new graduates.

With other Highly Specialist SLTs and the Head of Service, you will ensure clinical governance targets are met, including the development of clinical standards and protocols, specialist evidence-based practice, audit, research, clinical and non-clinical risk management.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a motivated and progressive SLT service who are continuously striving towards best-practice care. We are passionate about providing high quality care for our patients and look forward to hearing from you!
