Job description

As a VAT Assistant Manager, you will have the opportunity to join one of the largest real estate businesses in the UK, advising on a number of projects as well as having the chance to be involved in other areas of tax.

Key responsibilities:

• Assisting the Head of Tax on a number of VAT compliance projects which are intended to improve tax processes and controls
• Take responsibility and ownership for building and maintaining the businesses option to Tax Library and ensure Horizon reflects source documentation
• Lead a project for updating supplier records to ensure compliance with CIS regulations
• Liaise with Group Finance Services , the Finance Projects team and the Change and
• Programme Management team to provide input on changes / improvements required to meet the VAT requirements of Making Tax Digital
• Provide assistance to the Head of Tax on ad hoc VAT compliance and advisory queries which arise from the business
• Provide cover for routine VAT and CIS compliance processing
• Assist with compiling the data to submit the businesses settlement to HMRC and liaise with third party advisers

Experience required:

• 2+ years of experience of VAT gained either in house, at HMRC or through "hands' on" VAT compliance experience in practice
• Tax qualified or working towards a tax qualification
• Good technical knowledge of VAT compliance
• Exposure to businesses which are partially exempt, preferably in a compliance role
• Good understanding of tax risks and controls
• Practical experience of Making Tax Digital for VAT project implementation
• Prior experience in other taxes is not required, but a willingness to learn and develop in these areas whilst in role
• Experience of property businesses is an advantage but not essential
