Summary

If so, this may be a great opportunity for you to develop your career within the rapidly developing speciality of Elderly Medicine. We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated nurse who is able to consistently support the ward sisters and charge nurse in providing excellent nursing care in what is an interesting, at times challenging, but ultimately rewarding speciality.

T10 is a 62 bedded acute medical ward that specialises in providing specialist care to older adults whom have a variety of complex nursing, medical and social needs. Experience and competence is required in leading the care of the acutely deteriorating patient. Our patient group typically have multiple co-morbidities, and you will develop your knowledge, skills and competency related to a wide-range of conditions including renal, cardiac, respiratory problems, dementia and / or delirium. You will also gain a depth of experience in complex discharge planning and work alongside our expert discharge team, safeguarding team, social services and community multi-disciplinary teams.

As a senior staff nurse, you will be expected to assume the role of being the nurse in charge on day and night shifts and be responsible for co-ordinating patient activity, and ensuring that the highest standards of care is provided to our patients and that hospital-acquired harms are prevented. The role provides exciting opportunities for you to engage in audits and research, and drive forward quality improvement initiatives, including the "Exemplar Ward". You will be working as part of a passionate, dynamic and supportive multi-disciplinary team where ideas for new ward services are encouraged.

This role will offer huge potential to further develop your nursing career by supporting you to build your clinical, leadership and management skills. Applicants must have proven post registration experience in an acute hospital setting and possess a real passion and commitment for nursing older adults within the acute medical ward environment. It is essential that candidates possess an enthusiastic and friendly attitude alongside excellent written and verbal communication skills. The post holder will have an NMC approved teaching course and either possess, or be working towards, a relevant nursing degree.
