Job description

Role Description

A bit about the role.

We are currently growing the business faster than ever before and we want an ambitious individual with an entrepreneurial spirit to join our marketing team. The CRM (customer relationship management) side of marketing is quite new to us and we are looking for someone who can champion it inside the company.

CRM covers a lot, pretty much any communication we send out to our customers! At Butternut Box we like to split CRM out into three customers group; leads, existing customers, and paused customers. The person we are looking for will be involved in journeys and experiences for all three. Turning those leads into as many new customers (and happy dogs) as possible will be your primary responsibility to begin with but the role will grow as you settle in. You'll have your own targets to hit and a lot of freedom to try and test new initiatives to reach your goals.

This is a marketing role with a lot of runway ahead of it. As the CRM team grows we want you to be helping develop new hires and their skills. The perfect person for this role can see themselves taking on the team development and CRM strategy responsibility further down the line. We have a pretty clear idea of what your key tasks will be but it will almost certainly grow over time.

The early priorities include:

Email Campaigns - You will own the email marketing channel from an acquisitions perspective. You'll brief in campaigns (to try and convince leads to become customers) and ensure they are executed on.
Optimisation - You'll also work with the current CRM exec to help optimise & develop 'Always-On Campaigns', triggered email journeys that are sent to people after a specific action. Say - if they pause their account.
Reporting - You'll be working closely with the commercial team, which is all about analysis and insight. Every week we sit together as a team and get our heads around what's hot and what's not. You will help us pull all this together, analyse the information and take action on the back of it.
Creative & Product Collaboration - To help us achieve our goals, we work really closely with our in-house creative and digital product teams. Our creative team are all about the brand and fantastic at delivering the right message with the right tone. The digital product team are responsible for the usability and functionality of our website. You will be working closely with both teams to deliver fun, interactive and impactful campaigns.
International - Butternut box is soon to appear in a new set of countries and we couldn't be more excited. You'll be assisting with the regional marketing teams and helping deliver the best possible Butternut experience in new geographies and languages.

A bit about you.

You will be able to hit the ground running. We are envisaging at least 1-2 years of experience in a challenging marketing role. A head start on email would be great too. Knowledge of an email platform and of HTML email coding & tech integrations would be great!
You are genuinely passionate about marketing. We want to develop a brand that is unrivalled in the pet category and we have super ambitious commercial goals (we want to grow quickly). To achieve that we'll need someone who loves the job and relishes the challenge.
You love to solve a problem. In any role you will come up against obstacles that need creative solutions. These obstacles should motivate rather than scare you.
You are keen to become an expert in our customers. We have grown a lot in the last few years but there is still a lot of assumptions about our customers. You'll be keen to test (and maybe disprove) these assumptions and grow your understanding of motivations and behaviour.
You are results-orientated. You will want to be responsible for the key things that we are trying to do and relish the accountability that it brings.
You love dogs (would be a bit weird if you didn't)

A bit about what we offer.

25 days holiday (plus 8 bank holidays) and an additional day for every year of service
£500 personal learning & development budget

Butternut Box employee discount

Pension with NEST
