The Role - Health & Wellbeing Practitioner:

• Delivering client centered Substance Misuse and general Health and Wellbeing care to service users in a prison setting, supporting them in the development and preparation of their release
• Managing a caseload, providing appropriate harm reduction advice and guidance, and assessing care plans
• Delivering structured 1:1 and group-work sessions for both Substance Misuse and Low Level Mental Health service users
• Supporting service users through a transition from prison to the community via integrated working with other Health and Wellbeing agencies both within the prison and in the community
• Ensuring substance misuse and mental health groups, and Health and Wellbeing programmes, are facilitated/co-facilitated to the standard required by Forward

Requirements for the Health & Wellbeing Practitioner:

• A Level 3 Counselling qualification or about to commence/continue a recognised counselling course
• Experience in the criminal justice sector with knowledge of the issues faced by substance misusers and low-level mental health individuals
• A personable, approachable and professional individual
• Demonstratable experience of carrying out risk assessments, comprehensive assessments and the design and implementation of SMART care plans
• Experience providing counselling / CBT services to prisoners, or those with Health and Wellbeing, or drug and/or alcohol problems is desirable
• Experience carrying out psychosocial interventions including using motivational interviewing techniques in both 1:1 and therapeutic group settings
• A thorough knowledge of and committed to the 12-step process of recovery from addiction
• Previous experience working in a prison setting is advantageous
