Job description

Role Description

Okay basically what is this gig?

There are no two ways about it - this is quite a specific one. Here is what they have said:

"We're looking for a software engineer with an understanding of structural engineering principles to handle the development of our products (composites design, analysis, manufacture, FEA)."

Oh and - a key point - we're talking C++ here.

Okay...tell me more...

Sure! This is about working on software which is used in the design and manufacturing of amazing things like F1 cars and ships. In the first instance you will be working on development, upgrades and debugging. But once you're familiar with the products, you will be given responsibilities in supporting and further enhancing our augmented reality products.

So who is Anaglyph?

So, it's fair to say the team are not generalists. They develop software tools pretty much only for the engineering sector. They're real expertise is in tools (think Augmented Reality) which help with design but they help their clients right down the process chain to the manufacturing stage.

They say that their "expertise is mainly on advanced structural applications, in particular those employing composite materials." If that means nothing to you, probably self-select out of this one. But if that gets you going, well, read on!

What would I be responsible for?

Design, build, and maintain efficient, reusable, and reliable C++ code
Implement performance and quality modules
Identify bottlenecks and bugs, and devise solutions to these problems
Help maintain code quality, organisation, and automatisation
And what do I need to be able to do / have?
So, here is what they say is absolutely essential:
Experienced in C++ with Visual Studio
OpenGL
BSc/MSc in Engineering, Science or Maths (2.1 and above)

And these are the skills which would be a help but aren't required:

MFC
GUI development
OpenCascade
DirectX
Understanding of structural engineering
CAD and FEA
Augmented Reality

Anything more I should know?

Anaglyph have said specifically that they are looking for someone who is "self-motivated and prepared to work independently". This makes sense - they are currently working remotely. They have an office in Hammersmith but they're not yet back there.
This is all part and parcel with working in a small team - which can bring huge opportunities.
