Job description
Tullow Oil is looking to appoint a Category Lead - Capital Spend on a permanent basis. Whilst this role is currently based in Chiswick, there is the opportunity for this position to be based from the London or Accra office.
The individual will be responsible for all capital related contracting activity. The candidate will have a projects/wells environment background and experience of post award contract and supplier management.
The individual will be responsible for managing a team and assisting with the broader management of the supply chain function. We are looking for a forward thinker, an individual who thinks beyond tomorrow.
Role purpose
* Manage a contracts & procurement (C&P) team that is responsible for all capital-related contracting activity.
* Deliver commercially astute contracts and strong post award management performance, with an emphasis on developing longer - term collaborative relationships with key suppliers.
* Develop a commercially astute approach within both the C&P and end-user teams.
* Deliver sustainable local content and continuously drive an increase in effective local content spend.
* The role is responsible for contracting within the Wells and Projects & Engineering categories, and will manage teams in both the UK and Ghana
The Successful Candidate Will Be Responsible For
* Manage the C&P team and ensure all contracting activity is delivering commercial value to Tullow and is compliant with processes and approval requirements.
* In conjunction with contract and budget holders develop category and contracting strategies that effectively support Tullow's company strategy.
* Ensure the effective management of all contracts.
* Develop and maintain relationships with key suppliers and use such relationships to deliver value to Tullow.
* Seek opportunities to create long-term collaborative and / or alliance -type agreements and implement such opportunities.
* Continually increase spend with local suppliers.
* Contribute to the management of the supply chain function and play a key role in ensuring the function is delivering performance that will enable Tullow to out-compete its peers on costs and effectiveness of operations.
Skills
* Extensive experience at a managerial level.
* Substantive exposure to all disciplines and issues within contracts & procurement. Experience should ideally include knowledge of building and maintaining collaborative supplier relationships, effective category strategies, strong commercial and negotiating experience, and the management of local content issues.
* Experience of managing personnel that are geographically dispersed. An effective delegator and communicator with their team.
* International exposure within an oil and gas operating environment, or similar industries (eg Mining, Extraction, Utilities, Transportation/Logistics)
* Experience working in Africa on the above is preferred.
* A collaborative approach with internal and external stakeholders is required, as is high levels of self-motivation, and an ability to work in a multi-cultural, diverse environment.
* Ability to influence and effectively interact with senior management.
* Degree level in a business or management related subject.
