Your new company
An exciting and innovative biotech developing the next generation of personalised cancer therapies are increasing their bioinformatics, statistics and software teams to help drive forward their drug discovery and development programs.
The company is using DNA \/ NGS data from patients, along with their proprietary technology developed at world leading universities to produce a number of new therapies that will have a significant impact on patients and diseases such as cancer.
Your new role
You will be leading projects related to the discovery and development of new cutting edge personalised therapies, primarily through the analysis and interpretation of NGS data sets and biomarker identification \/ validation.
This is a hands-on role with leadership responsibilities working as part of a cross-functional team, interacting closely with biologists, statisticians, bioinformaticians and clinical researchers.
Major responsibilities will include:
* Utilising a variety of machine learning approaches for analysing large scale NGS datasets;
* Biomarker \/ target identification & validation;
* Developing & optimising machine learning tools, models, methods and approaches
* Project management, including setting timelines and milestones;
* Hands-on programming, eg in Python, R or similar;
* Liaising with major stakeholders;
* Providing mentorship and training to other members of the group;
* Working with molecular biologists to help interpret data and optimise experimental approaches.
What you'll need to succeed
As well as strong communication, organisational and time management skills, you should have:
* An MSc \/ PhD (or equivalent experience) in bioinformatics, computational biology, statistics, computer science, biology or a related subject;
* Hands-on experience with the analysis and interpretation of large scale NGS data sets (ideally from clinical samples);
* Very strong Machine Learning experience;
* A background in developing Machine Learning tools, methods or models;
* Knowledge of cancer biology, cell biology, immunology or immuno-oncology;
* A track record of working with genomic (eg sequencing \/ NGS, RNA-Seq, ChIP-Seq, methylation) or other clinical data;
* Strong programming\/scripting skills in a language such as R, Python, Perl or similar; and
* Good project management skills.
Candidates with knowledge \/ experience of biomarker discovery or validation, pharmaceutical drug discovery and\/or development projects are encouraged to apply.
