Your new role

The successful candidate will become a senior member of the Research & Development team, bringing their expertise of photonics knowledge and optical engineering to the development and implementation of the clients' core technologies to attain target performance for new instrumentation. Key R&D duties include:

* Taking initiative in the planning of research, identifying and developing suitable techniques, and apparatus for the collection and analysis of biomedical assay data.
* You will identify, capture and record IP, additionally assisting with IP protection.
* You will attend relevant team meetings, workshops, and conferences as necessary, developing contacts and research collaborations with the wider community

What you'll need to succeed

* You will hold a PhD (or equivalent research experience) in Chemistry, Physics, Engineering, Biochemistry, or in a closely related field, with at least 3 years of post-doctoral research experience.
* Experience with optical and photonic instrument design and construction is critical to this role.

Skills that would be an advantage to possess include:

* Experience of producing biologically relevant data,
* Experience with optical waveguides, and array and wide-field optical detectors,
* Experience with fluorescence spectroscopy and light collection,
* Experience with signal-to-noise analysis,
* Experience with a wide range of visible light sources, and
* Experience with image analysis protocols and development.
