Job description

Lead and support young people on exciting trek projects in the West Highlands of Scotland on Raleigh International's conservation and youth development programme, Re:Green. As an Adventure Project Manager, you will be Mountain Leader assessed and confident facilitating young people to develop their own leadship and teamwork skills.

Raleigh International is a youth-driven organisation supporting a global movement of people to take action. Our projects on Re:Green will engage young people aged 18-24 to create long lasting change through conservation projects in Scotland's rainforests and ancient woodland, whilst developing their own skills and confidence through challenging leadership trek projects across the incredible landscapes of Western Scotland.

We need experienced mountain leaders to support our volunteer teams on this aspect of their programmes. You might also have the opportunity to support our young people on additional conservation and campaigning projects whilst developing your own skills in the process. If you are keen to build your skills on meaningful projects that create lasting change or are just looking for an exciting and rewarding experience without travelling abroad this year, we want to hear from you.

What will I do?

• Facilitate and inspire a diverse group of young volunteers to complete a challenging and remote trek in the most stunning parts of Scotland, across Fort William, Glenfinnan, the Knoydart Pensinsula and potentially Ben Nevis.
• Use your outdoor leadership and training experience to support your team, encouraging them to lead and support each other to complete this together.
• Gain insight into the running of sustainable development programmes and the practical challenges they encompass.
• Receive training with your fellow Volunteer Managers in advance of your programme and during your first week before the volunteers arrive.

When can I go?

We are recruiting this role for our programmes beginning in June, July and September 2022 on the dates below:

• 5 Jun - 9 Jul
• 17 Jul - 20 Aug
• 1 Sep - 5 Oct

Costs and what is covered:

This is an unpaid voluntary position, with a required fundraising cost of £50 for our Adventure Project Managers. This is significantly reduced from our other volunteer roles, given the specialist skills you are bringing. This contributes to the cost of running our projects worldwide whilst also paying for all expenses for you overseas including:

• All food and accommodation throughout your programme
• All travel during your programme
• Premium tailored health insurance
• Leading safety expertise supported by our British standard 8848 safety accreditation
• All necessary project training by experienced staff
• All project equipment, supplies and tools

We encourage all our volunteers to fundraise beforehand and can support you to do so, however you can cover this by any means you prefer.
