Job description

Expion are pleased to be officially recruiting for a number of key positions with Royal Mail at the moment. These positions within Royal Mail Engineering will fulfil key parts of their huge national project to upgrade and develop their automated parcel and letter sortation systems across their numerous distribution centres in the UK.

Royal Mail is investing significantly and continuously in their automated equipment to ensure they remain at the forefront of their industry and deliver an efficient and cost-effective parcel and post delivery service.

As such they are upgrading their existing equipment and also rolling out brand new automated sortation equipment at their multiple sites across the UK.

The role:

The Automation Technical Test Manager position that sits within the Technical Test Management area of the Engineering Deployment and Integration division within Royal Mail Engineering.

This area covers:

Test strategy
Test specification
Contract testing
Defect identification
Test defect management
Change Testing

Key Responsibilities of the role are:

Works with project teams and automation suppliers to oversee the development of the test approach and test cases in line with agreed contract requirements, contract performance and contract test activities
Ensures deployed assets/changes are tested to the agreed approach and schedule working with RM project teams and the wider engineering strands to meet project timescales.
Responsible for planning, executing and recording test activities/results and managing Test Engineers assigned to a particular testing phaseThis is a national position with frequent travel. You will be frequently and extensively visiting project sites at Royal Mail distribution centres. These sites are nationwide, and all travel and accommodation costs will be covered for you.

Basic salary depending on experience ranges from £46-55k. The company also pay a performance related bonus and offer an outstanding range of benefits including a generous company pension and holiday entitlement. This is a fixed term contract which is fully employed by Royal Mail, with funding agreed until at least August 2023.

To succeed in this position, you will have:

Good knowledge of automated processes, equipment & machinery
Good knowledge of automation data interface specifications and testing methodologies, working closely with internal technology teams to apply the methodologies
Experience of delivering automation test strategy through applied test cases, working closely and managing external suppliers against a contract
Experience of using test validation and defect management processes and tools and application to automation testing
Ability to conduct detailed data analysis, apply systematic problem-solving techniques, and effectively prioritise available resources in a programme testing environment.
Experience of managing a team of professional engineers
Good Project Management and planning skills
A degree-level or equivalent qualification in an engineering or related discipline, and have a H&S safety qualification such as IOSH
Good knowledge of letter and parcel address reading technologies (or similar reading technologies) and supplier testing methodologies as applied to these technologiesYou will also ideally be a chartered engineer or hold similar accredited membership of a relevant body
