ABOUT US
We're looking for an experienced and enthusiastic Biodiversity Manager to join our growing business and support the Executive team in driving forward our ambitious strategic development plans.
Middlemarch is an award-winning natural environment consultancy that has recently embarked on an exciting period of strategic growth. Headquartered in Coventry and with regional teams across the UK, Middlemarch provides nationwide ecological, arboricultural and biodiversity services, as well as supporting clients with bespoke and innovative landscape design projects and nature-based solutions.
Middlemarch has a bold ambition to be the environment consultancy of choice, offering trusted advice that helps to create an enduring natural environment legacy.
There are many challenges that can arise at the interface of nature and human development. Middlemarch provides expertise to a wide range of public and private sector clients to address these challenges and ensure that the value in nature is fully understood, preserved and, wherever possible, enhanced.
Established in 1992, Middlemarch is a wholly owned subsidiary of Warwickshire Wildlife Trust. Collectively, the Wildlife Trusts are the largest voluntary nature and conservation organisation in the UK with over 850,000 members and 35,000 volunteers working to improve nature.
THE ROLE
The natural environment sector in the UK is experiencing its greatest change in over 30 years. New environmental legislation and an ever-growing awareness of the global biodiversity crisis means policy makers and developers alike are looking to nature-based solutions to address the challenges of climate change, biodiversity loss, and human health and wellbeing.
Middlemarch operates at the forefront of the UK's response to these challenges and has built a strong reputation and proven track record in the core service areas of ecology and arboriculture. The company has also already established significant expertise in biodiversity net gain, habitat design and offset provision.
An initial period of recruitment in early 2021 has seen our capability and capacity around the provision of nature-based solutions grow significantly. We are now looking to diversify further to take advantage of new opportunities that are emerging from the new legislative and policy framework in the UK. As part of this diversification, we have identified the need for a talented Biodiversity Manager to join the team and help the executive to help manage and grow our recently established Biodiversity and Nature Based Solutions team.
The aim of the role is twofold: to coordinate and manage our expanding team of technical specialists in key growth areas e.g. biodiversity/environmental net gain, habitat design/creation, nutrient management; and, to liaise with external and internal stakeholders to identify and develop new services and clients under the "nature-based solutions" umbrella.
As a part of our team, you will be offered a competitive salary and benefits package in line with your experience and skills, the potential for performance related rewards, pension, and the opportunity for training and continued professional development.
The role can be based at one of Middlemarch's existing hubs in the Midlands or South-east, or alternatively can be a home-based role.
Middlemarch celebrates diversity and inclusivity in the workplace and is committed to providing fair and equal access to opportunities for all candidates.
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
We are looking for a candidate with a good understanding of the natural environment sector who can work closely with the Executive to coordinate and grow our Biodiversity and Nature Based Solutions team.
People management, project management and stakeholder engagement experience are essential, along with sound commercial awareness and an understanding of how to develop new business.
