Job description
About us
Crisis is the national charity for homeless people. We know that homelessness is not inevitable. We know that together we can end it.
Crisis at Christmas is our unique event, with centres across Britain offering people experiencing homeless food, clothing, advice and support with health, housing, employment and benefits, as well as a safe space to stay at an extremely challenging time of year.
About the role
Our Christmas Case Management Team work across the Crisis at Christmas services in London. We provide support to guests of Christmas experiencing homelessness and who lack support from other services. We continue this support into the year after Christmas and we take further referrals throughout the year form partner agencies.
We prioritise building meaningful relationships and work with people to identify what works for them. Our approach is developed from trauma informed, strengths-based and intensive case management approaches and we deliver this through an outreach-based service, working across the London boroughs. We are looking for an experienced, skilled and driven person to join the Case Management Team as a Case Manager. As the Case Manager, you will provide flexible, person-centred support to people who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless, assisting them to access accommodation and relevant services. You will establish open and trusting relationships with our members who are/have been living on the streets or in temporary accommodation, offering high quality information, advice and support and working in a psychologically informed way which accounts for the trauma our members have often suffered.
Through establishing internal and external partnerships and advocating where necessary, you will support guests to achieve their outcomes and move away from homelessness. You will be supported by the team administrator to record and monitor the progress of service users, ensuring the data is accurate. You will receive regular supervision, reflective practice, and access to learning and development opportunities. Finally, you will be joining a high performing and highly experienced team, who are motivated to improve the quality of life of people experiencing homelessness in London.
About you
To be successful in this role you will have/be -
- Demonstrable track record of successfully using coaching and IAG with people who have experienced homelessness, social exclusion or similar disadvantage.
- Experience of working with people who have complex needs using strengths-based approaches
- Knowledge of the issues affecting people experiencing homelessness, including relevant homelessness legislation and welfare benefits.
- Knowledge of psychologically informed approaches and ability to reflect on own practice
- Ability to conduct initial assessments with clients, develop progression and learning plans, and undertake regular reviews to ensure progress towards goals
- Demonstrable experience of networking and securing access to appropriate specialist support services for clients, with the ability to advocate wherever necessary
We believe diversity is a strength, and our aim is to make sure that Crisis truly reflects the communities we serve. We are actively working towards our organisation being a place where everyone can thrive and make their best contribution to our mission of ending homelessness for good. We know that the more perspectives, voices, and experiences we can bring to this work, the better. We particularly welcome applications from people who have lived experience of homelessness, and people from all marginalised groups, communities and backgrounds.
Working at Crisis
As a member of the team, you will have access to a wide range of employee benefits including:
- Interest free loans to purchase a train season ticket or a bike or for a deposit to secure a tenancy
- Mandatory pension scheme, with an employer contribution of 8.5%
- 25 days' annual leave which increases with service to 28 days
Alongside our excellent staff benefits, we will support your ongoing development to build your skills, experience and career.
