Job description
An opportunity has arisen for a Manager to be a business partner with one of our Audit business units, reporting to a Senior Manager. Typically our business units have around 600 partners and staff and generate annual revenues of £100m - £200m, so are substantial businesses in their own right. You will be working in a team of 4 finance professionals providing advice to client facing professionals in line with PwC policies and accounting standards.
About the team
Our Finance Business partnering teams are an integral part of PwC's internal Finance function. They align to business units and work closely with the business unit's leadership teams to help drive business performance. They provide a platform to support well-informed and high quality financial decision making. Their impact is felt across a wide range of business activities and controls.
Our Finance Business partnering teams provide objective financial advice and opinions that positively impact the future choices of a business unit. They identify and drive financial improvements whether through pricing, efficiency, resource allocation or cost management. They prepare financial plans, targets, budgets and forecasts for the business unit and report on financial and non-financial performance against these (in other words SP&A activities). They are also key to ensuring financial controls and disciplines are maintained.
Responsibilities
Business strategy & strategic planning
You will be working closely with the Finance Senior Manager (Finance Leader) to provide input into the preparation of the financial aspects of the business plan.
Support the Finance leader, working closely with the Business Unit Leadership, other members of the finance team and other functional representatives to provide input into the preparation of the financial aspects of both the current and longer term business plan. Helps identify, develop and prioritise delivery of the firm's strategic and operational financial objectives within the business unit.
Budgeting & forecasting
Responsible for preparation of the business unit annual budget and forecasts in line with centrally defined guidelines, liaising with and gathering input from all appropriate sources across the business unit, applying market, industry and firm knowledge for Finance Leader review.
Performance management & improvement
Responsible for drafting the interpretation of the monthly financial results and provision of insightful commentary to the Finance Leader. Able to interpret and communicate results of business performance.
Employs strong business analysis skills to identify underlying business issues from financial data and trends. Proposes and discusses actions with the Finance Leader and supports implementation to address areas of poor performance.
Responsible for understanding and monitoring working capital position and influencing the business to improve.
Supporting the Finance Leader in analysing key metrics and seeking profit/margin improvement opportunities.
Supporting the Finance Leader in the implementation of One Firm or LoS specific financial performance improvement initiatives.
Offering pricing support to non priority client proposals / local business unit engagements.
Providing input to financial awareness training to client facing staff.
Dealing with queries from internal and external audit teams.
Financial control & compliance
Works in close partnership with the Financial Control centre of excellence to encourage a culture of strong financial discipline and adoption of financial policies and procedures within the business unit.
Reviews completion of controls work performed by junior members of the team and follows up any exceptions accordingly, identifying and escalating any significant issues.
Ensuring local financial risk knowledge is shared with the Financial Control centre of excellence.
Analysis and understanding of directly controllable business unit costs
People Management
Acting as the number two in a team of four finance staff, the individual will have plenty of opportunity to coach and lead the two junior members of the team. More specifically :

In addition to the above the Finance Manager will actively contribute to the development of OneFinance and pro-actively develops OneFinance core skills. You will be committed to developing mutually supportive relationships with the wider Finance team and able to effectively utilise the expertise available.
Who we are looking for
The individual should have:
Previous experience in a business decision role, preferably within a professional service organisation
Strong technical and commercial skills
Strong influencing skills with the confidence to challenge management where appropriate
Evidence of building and sustaining strong relationships with senior stakeholders
Ideally some experience of Business Intelligence software such as Tableau, Qlik or PowerBI
A track record of developing and coaching more junior staff
Experience of delivering solutions, from the scoping phase through to embedding processes and outputs
A relevant finance qualification such as ACA, CIMA or ACCA or equivalent
