Job description

We are seeking a Head of Audience Development with a strong track record of delivering digital growth to oversee the Foundation's Social Media, Audience, and Digital Marketing functions.

You will drive innovation and champion audience-focused, data-informed decision making across the organization with a remit that spans editorial and corporate functions. This is an exciting opportunity to lead a high-performing team at a pivotal time for the Foundation.

In 2022 we will launch a new editorial digital product aimed at purpose-driven professionals; we will roll out a new AI-powered analytics platform across the newsroom; and we will develop paid and email marketing strategies for corporate and thought leadership programmes including TrustLaw, Inclusive Economies and Trust Conference.

The Audience Development team supports both Editorial and Corporate teams, helping our newsroom and services to understand and grow new communities.

The ideal candidate will have a mix of experience in newsrooms, agencies, corporates, and/or charities.

About the Role:

As our Head of Audience Development at the Thomson Reuters Foundation, you will:

  • Strengthen the Social Media, Audience, and Digital Marketing teams by providing expert strategic and practical guidance leading to audience growth across multiple platforms, both editorial and corporate.
  • Oversee the development and the implementation of audience acquisition and growth strategies for the Foundation's news digital product.
  • Evangelise the use of SEO and data to inform editorial decision making, upskilling staff and providing support when needed
  • Work with the Editor-in-Chief, Deputy Editor, and Section Editors to identify opportunities to drive readership growth
  • Work with the Director of Product & Technology to translate audience and newsroom needs into products that our readers will love
  • Work with the Directors of Comms, TrustLaw, Media Freedom, and Inclusive Economies to promote our services to different stakeholder groups growing audiences accordingly.
  • Identify opportunities to innovate in digital spaces and succeed on new platforms

To be our Head of Audience Development, you will likely have:

  • A proven track record of delivering growth on social media platforms and websites
  • A deep understanding of SEO, data analysis, and analytics tools
  • Experience with paid marketing (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Google)
  • Experience with email service providers (Mailchimp, Campaign Monitor, etc)
  • Excellent managerial skills with the ability to lead whilst retaining and nurturing talent
  • An obsession with planning and being organised
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and collaboratively, delegating accordingly
