Job description

The Bromley by Bow Centre is a pioneering and vibrant community charity in East London which is renowned for its radical approach to health and wellbeing. It was founded 37 years ago and sits in a beautiful three-acre community park. At its heart is a partnership between a diverse community, a locally-rooted charitable organisation, a research team and one of the most progressive primary care health teams in the UK.

Today the UK is crying out for a radical reframing of primary care. One that works in equal partnership with the vital grassroots community organisations that underpin good health for individuals and families. With loneliness and poor mental health significantly impacting our most disadvantaged communities in the wake of COVID-19, pre-existing pressures have just got a whole lot worse.

The Bromley by Bow Centre has understood this problem for over 30 years. Not only that, it's been busy pioneering effective new approaches in real-time, by combining direct action to alleviate social needs, alongside providing high quality clinical care provided by our sister organisation, Bromley by Bow Health. The key to our approach is starting with the community and building our approach collectively with local people.

Our new Head of People and Culture will provide strategic leadership across the Centre in areas including staff wellbeing, human resources, training and development and internal communications. We understand that our people - our staff as well as our volunteers - are at the core of what we do. The role of Head of People and Culture is not about owning and delivering our People and Culture Strategy in isolation - we believe that is with all of us, across the Centre. Rather, it is about providing the continued impetus for improvement as well as ensuring that our processes, procedures and general ways of working support us on our journey.

You will have extensive HR experience, ideally within the charity or not for profit sector, with a CIPD qualification. You will have exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, and able to comfortably operate and lead in a multicultural and multistakeholder community organisation. As a natural relationship builder, you will be able to work collaboratively, balancing operational and strategic responsibilities - rolling up your sleeves will be something you're used to but comfortable with. Experience of change management and improving organisational Diversity and Inclusion is a must.

As an organisation, we are committed to taking equality, diversity and inclusion into account in everything we do. We are looking to further enhance the diversity in our team, especially at a more senior level, and as such would particularly welcome applications from people with disabilities, people from Black, Asian or Minority Ethnic backgrounds, people from the LGBTQ+ community

Closing date: By 9am, Monday 6th December 2021
