Health and Safety Manager
Location: Leyland, Preston
Salary: Circa £40k - 60k plus excellent benefits
A local food manufacturing company are now looking to recruit a Health and Safety Manager to join their team.
This is a brand new position and would suit someone with a mix of strategic experience coupled with a friendly hands on approach.
Health and Safety Manager - Purpose
You will design, implement and deliver a high standard Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) department, ensuring that the business operate safe working environment for all employees and visitors. You will use your expert knowledge and experience to provide on-site support to ensure risks are managed in a timely fashion, as well as completing audits and checks to so the business meets all health & safety related legislative requirements.
Health and Safety Manager - Role and Responsibilities
Design, implement and deliver HSE strategies, including required policies
Undertake risk assessments and reviewing current risk assessments
Conducting and reviewing COSHH assessments
Design and deliver toolbox talks
Perform regular internal Health, Safety & Environment audits and inspections, relaying findings back to Company Directors on areas of improvement / none compliance / priorities
Lead on accident, near miss and incident investigation, root cause analysis and reporting and managing corrective actions
Manage and maintain records for incidents, near misses and accident reports
Undertake action plans to ensure continuing, sustained compliance with legislation
Implement immediate corrective actions and overseeing all further preventative and corrective actions to eliminate root causes
Arrange all facility repairs, installations and any other maintenance that causes risk to employee safety, including working with Engineering department where applicable
Advise and support all colleagues of their statutory duties within their areas of responsibility
Advise, train and lead employees on various safety-related topics
Ensure all staff, agency workers and contractors are fully inducted to H&S policy and standards
Carry out new and expectant mothers risk assessments and young person's RAS for Under 18s
Coordinate and lead H&S meetings with H&S champions, implementing actions agreed
Lead and mentor H&S champions
Design, develop and maintain HSE reporting / records
Manage all records ensuring information up to date and arrange training when appropriate, including fire marshals and first aiders
Manage contractor vetting and other contractor management processes including the review of risk assessments / method statements and the issuing of permits to work
Manage, monitor and challenge standards to promote continual improvement
Raising HSE purchase orders
Update H&S noticeboards
Ensure suitable selection of PPE to the appropriate standard, order and distribute it to colleagues, ensuring records are managed and maintained
Liaising with HR department regarding staff working conditions and accessibility
Identify opportunities for improvement, and executing large and complex projects from planning to execution
Research applicable legal requirements and best practice to identify potential improvements
Be a subject matter expert in your specific level of competence, while staying vigilant
Support with environmental matters such as, environmental impact assessments, investigations etc, and compliance with environmental legislation
Health and Safety Manager - Role Requirements
The ideal candidate MUST come from the Manufacturing Industry as a Health and Safety Manager. You will also have the following skills, qualifications and experience:
Hold a NEBOSH Diploma, NCRQ or NVQ Diploma or Equivalent in Occupational Health and Safety
Member of IOSH and working towards CMIOSH
Ideally hold an environmental qualification such as CIEH, IEAM or NEBOSH
Have experience of setting HSE Strategies and also implementing and following through with changes
Have a hands on and pro-active approach to safety
Able to create and promote a positive HSE Culture
You will be a very organised person with excellent IT and excel skills
