Summary
The care assistant is primarily responsible for delivering the highest possible standard of care to our service users.
Specific tasks:
• To provide all personal care and attention for each service user and to follow the activities of daily living in accordance with the planned care.
• To ensure that service user's physical needs, comfort and dignity are met.
• To allow service users freedom of choice and to abide by the Bassett House Charter.
• To assist qualified Nurses in the performance of their duties as requested.
• To encourage and assist service users in leisure pursuits and ensure that their social and emotional needs are met.
• To maintain confidentiality at all times.
• To report any changes in service users physical or mental condition to the senior staff on duty.
• To maintain accurate records on all forms as required.
• To cover colleagues duties in times of sickness and holidays.
• To undertake induction training and participate in training programmes which may be required either by Law or Company standards.
• To abide by the Home's security precautions at all times.
• To comply with regulations of Health and Safety at Work, COSHH, Environmental Health and Fire Procedures, etc and abide by the Home's Health and Safety Policy.
• To report promptly all complaints, however minor, to the Senior Nurse on duty.
• To undertake cleaning duties as required, replenish stocks of disposable items and exercise cost control at all times.
• To ensure service users clothing and toiletries are adequate and named and ensure deficiencies are reported.
• To take care to protect service users personal belongings.
• To participate in assessment and evaluation of service users care.
• To work as a key worker to allocated service users.
• To attend meetings as required by the Home Director.
• To be courteous and polite at all times and to develop good relations with service users, visitors and other professionals both inside and outside the Home.
• To abide by the Home's Quality Procedures, Policies and Work practices and to report any non-conformances in the correct manner.
• To answer outside telephone calls politely and relay messages efficiently.
• To participate in marketing activities as requested.
• To promote the good name of the Home and the Company at all times.
• To co-operate and maintain good working relationships with all staff.
Senior Health Care Assistants will also carry out the following:
• The supervision and induction of new care assistants.
• The on-going supervision of care assistants, making sure that they are fulfilling their allocated tasks and that they are not having any difficulties with any aspects of their work.
• Attending staff meetings and actively participating in discussions regarding the service users care.
• In an emergency, requiring the RN to be called away you will be required to assume an "in charge" role in respect of a group of service users.
• You will be expected to meet with service users relatives, and where these relatives are remaining in the home for an extended visit, it is the job of the senior care assistant to ensure that these guests are appropriately accommodated. This will be of particular importance, if relatives are attending a terminally ill resident.
• You will be prepared to undertake additional training as may be reasonably required of you by the Home director.
• You will be expected to ensure that all care assistants are maintaining the necessary paperwork eg. Fluid charts, task sheets etc.
• You will be expected to report to the home director any member of staff that you feel is not carrying out their work effectively.
• You will be expected to actively promote the home at all times. If required you should be able to show prospective clients/relatives around the home.
• You will be asked to monitor care staff who have been disciplined and report their progress to the Home director.
• You will ensure that all changes to service users care plans are reported to the RN and if necessary you will complete the care plan evaluation sheets between monthly reviews.
• You will be expected to participate in staff hand-overs to ensure that on-coming staff are aware of any changes relating to service users health and well being.
In addition to the above duties the Manager may form time-to-time request the senior care assistant to undertake other tasks reasonably related to their employment.
