Highways Development Control Engineer

Carrington West on behalf of their client is recruiting for a Highways Development Control Engineer based with a client in the South Yorkshire.

The Highways Development Control Engineer responsible for providing highways and transport advice on development proposals and planning applications.

The main responsibilities of the Highways Development Control Engineer

1. Assisting in ensuring the delivery of the Highway Development Management service.
2. To advise on the transportation aspects of development proposals which are likely to have a significant impact on highway and/or transportation systems. The advice is in respect of the full range of development management i.e. pre-application enquiries, planning applications, and local development documents.
3. To provide timely advice to developers and colleagues in respect of highway development management aspects of new development proposals.
4. To negotiate highway improvements and financial contributions to mitigate any adverse impacts of development proposals, and to secure those improvements and/or developer contributions through the appropriate legal agreements (for example agreements under Section 38 and 278 of the Highways Act 1980 or via S106 agreements).
5. To assist in the preparation of evidence at planning inquiries/appeals and legal hearings to defend the interests of the highway authority.
6. To contribute to the development of new planning policy, supplementary planning documents/development briefs and masterplans for major development sites.
7. Supporting and assisting the team in the delivery of the functions and services provided by the Projects Team.
8. To work flexibly as a member of the Network Management & Development Group to ensure that the aims and objectives of the Highways & Transportation service are met and a high standard of service delivery is maintained.
