About the team

Learning and Development (L&D) is PwC's internal learning and development function. Our ambition is to be a world-class learning function, partnering with the business to deliver solutions which meet the needs of our people and help deliver the Firm's strategic priorities.

The Learning Design team is responsible for creating learning solutions to meet business needs. Our learning solutions embed the 70:20:10 principle and align with the learning strategy.

About the role

The team is currently looking for a Non Technical Lead Author, based from one of our offices across the UK - with scope for hybrid working, both from home and the office. The focus on Non Technical content relates to the business curriculums that the team are responsible for: Firmwide, Consulting and Deals.

As a Non Technical Lead Author, you will work with the wider Learning Design, Strategic Relationships and Learning Experience teams to deliver highly effective training content and learning design strategies using adult learning principles.

You will work on a variety of projects and initiatives related to non-technical learning content within PwC within the UK, this includes the design, development and review of face-to-face or technology enabled learning solutions.

However, there are no guarantees on which projects you will work on during your time in the team and a wide range of experience of developing projects and programmes for learners, therefore, is key to being successful in this role.

The key responsibilities of the role are to:

  • Work with the Strategic Relationship team (L&D Business Partners) to understand the requirements of the internal client, and work with them to define the kind of learning that would be the most appropriate using both digital or face to face modalities.

  • Oversee all stages of the design process for a portfolio of programmes. This will involve effective design and evaluation of ongoing programmes or projects for new solutions.

  • Identify and assess the associated design work required to meet the needs of the business request whilst balancing the needs for the function to deliver on multiple projects at the same time.

  • Draft and agree scope, objectives, design proposals, detailed design plans, delivery and evaluation in conjunction with the wider Learning Design, Strategic Relationships and Learning Experience teams.

  • Ensure the design meets the learning objectives and budget parameters and that there are appropriate evaluation interventions in place.

  • Review content written by authors, and peers, to check the flow of the messages, whether all learning objectives have been met and whether there is an appropriate mix of delivery approaches adopted.

  • Take a management and, at times leadership, role of Authors in the team, providing on the job coaching and supporting personal development of peers and team members.

  • Be client focussed at all times - understanding their needs and keeping them in mind when taking actions or making decisions.

  • Work closely with assigned SMEs (subject matter experts) to define and prioritise learning objectives and to ensure that all final materials are reviewed .

  • Take a role in keeping abreast of latest external thinking and best practice and bringing this expertise to L&D.

  • Have an awareness and be able to actively manage Intellectual Property Rights (i.e. copyright) requirements applicable to their activities.

  • Take a lead on project management of the design plan that will be developed by the design team.

  • Share the continuous improvement of methods and technologies used within the learning design process.

Who we are looking for

The following skills are required for this role:

  • Understanding and proven record of applying learning design and adult learning principles

  • Passionate about learning and development with an awareness of new thinking in the profession and with strong networks

  • Innovative and creative in design thinking and when approaching new challenges

  • Experience of designing high quality blended learning solutions that will bring business benefits to PwC

  • Positive, can-do attitude with the ability to adapt and work effectively in a changing environment

  • Strong understanding of and a passion for digital learning solutions and Learning Technologies and how they can be used to add value and transform the way we learn

  • Awareness and understanding of how Learning Management Systems play their role in delivering effective learning

  • Strong interest in quickly developing knowledge in latest learning and development methodologies and technology

  • Excellent project management, risk management, organisational skills & budgetary experience and able to work to deadlines

  • Strong analytical skills to effectively identify issues and be able to apply sound conclusions resulting in the right solution, at the right time and at the right cost

  • Goal orientated - maintains focus on agreed objectives and deliverables

  • Commercially orientated - keeps commercial aspects continually in mind when taking actions or making decisions

  • Proven ability to self-motivate and work independently as well as a track record of working professionally and collaboratively as part of a wider-team

  • Ability to build and maintain good relationships

  • Communicate confidently and effectively, at all levels, both in written and verbal form

  • Highly energised and motivated to effect change and influence the firm's approach to people development

  • People management experience, able to motivate and manage individuals, dealing with immediate performance concerns in an appropriate manner.

  • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously. As well as project manage one or more projects at once.

  • Effectively use google applications day-to-day as well as the design mode or equivalent software
